The Senior Rail and Transit Vehicle Engineering Consultant will perform a variety of consulting, technical and commercial support to all aspects of rail and transit projects. In this role, the Consultant would support delivery of multidisciplinary complex system and infrastructure-related projects involving rolling stock fleets (light rail, rapid transit, commuter cars, multiple units and locomotives, buses), infrastructure (tunnels, track, stations, signaling, power, communications, bridge, and other systems, assets, and facilities), and ensure that project deliverables are completed within budget and schedule, in conformance with applicable requirements.
The Senior Rail and Transit Vehicle Engineering Consultant may act as one of the primary project and/or client contacts, responsible for delivery of overall work and technical performance.
The position requires experience with all types of rail and road transit vehicle engineering, maintenance, and operation, as well as a network of industry contacts. Good writing and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are essential.
Duties may include the following role and responsibilities:
• Provide project management, technical and business support to a variety of Rail and Transit Consulting assignments including procurement of new and overhaul of rolling stock vehicles, signaling, and other transit-related systems and supporting works.
• Manage the interface between consultant team and client, and interface between third parties and the client/consultant team.
• Assess contract performance and compliance, make and implement recommendations.
• Support leadership in business development efforts to help grow the Rail and Transit Consulting business.
• Support both office and field-based activities, including technology assessments, preparation of technical specifications, O&M requirements, contract documents, evaluating vendors, design reviews, problem resolutions, project evaluations, compliance with prescribed technical and contract requirements, manage all stages of projects including administrative processes.
• Perform technical reviews of proposed designs for transit and railroad fleets, analyze requirements, and prepare review comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables.
• Identify and resolve design and system integration issues on transit projects.
• Support field implementation, assess performance of newly furnished fleets and systems, from different suppliers, for compatibility, functionality, and other compliances.
• Coordinate and develop positive relationships with clients, contractors, and their staff.
• Ensure that Company principles, policies, integrity, and procedures are consistently practiced.
• Stay informed of the Rail and Transit Program business, technological needs, and trends.
• Work with other Jacobs staff, client and 3rd party consultants and contractors to deliver high-quality projects, promote positive, professional employee relations.
• Perform interdisciplinary reviews to verify coordination with associated disciplines for each submittal package.
• Coordinate and develop positive relationships with contractors and their staff.
• Participate in meetings with other design disciplines, contractors, and client staff, assist with and participate in presentations and public hearings/reviews relative to assigned projects.
• Perform other client site assignments and duties as requested.
• Substantial years of relevant experience in the rail and transit industry, with a proven track record of successful project delivery for major rail and/or transit systems and/or technology projects.
• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Transportation, Public Policy, Construction Management, Finance/Economics, Business Administration or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college or university.
• Experience with all types of rail and road transit vehicle engineering, maintenance, and operation, specification development, fleet procurement and contracting; testing and commissioning is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with clients, establish and maintain relationships, and articulate complex concepts effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving, judgment, decision-making, and analytical skills.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team, and to work with all levels within a given organization (internal or external).
• A Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng or equivalent designation is desirable.
