At Solstice Day School, we integrate a strong, fully accredited academic curriculum with a trauma-informed, therapeutic model of care for students in grades 7 through 12 who have learning, mental health or behavioral health issues.
With small class sizes and a student-teacher ratio of 8:1, our highly qualified and clinically supported faculty is able to provide highly differentiated and individualized instruction that meets the needs of each student as outlined in their individualized educational plan (IEP).
Under the guidance of the Education Director, the teacher delivers specialized instruction and services to students with disabilities, adhering to the regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The teacher collaborates with the Special Education Teacher, Education Director, and families to ensure that students can access the curriculum and achieve their individualized education program (IEP) goals.
_Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:_
Instruction & Classroom Support
+ Develop and implement standards-based lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
+ Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support students’ academic, behavioral, social, and communication needs.
+ Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to ensure accessibility for diverse learners.
+ Use progress-monitoring tools, assessments, and data to inform instruction and adjust interventions.
IEP Development & Compliance
+ Assist the team in writing high-quality IEPs, including present levels of performance, measurable goals, and identifying accommodations and modifications that students need.
+ Maintain compliance with all timelines and procedural requirements under IDEA and Massachusetts Special Education Regulations (603 CMR 28.00).
+ Maintain accurate records, documentation, and progress reports.
Collaboration & Communication
+ Collaborate effectively with special education teachers to enhance inclusion and co-teaching models.
+ Maintain consistent communication with families about student progress, services, and any concerns.
+ Engage in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional learning communities to foster collaboration and ongoing development.
Behavior & Social-Emotional Support
+ Implement student empowerment plans and positive behavioral supports.
+ Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
+ Support students in developing social-emotional and self-advocacy skills.
Professional Responsibilities
+ Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and legal standards in special education.
+ Participate in required DESE professional development, including training in restraint prevention, inclusive practices, and mandated reporting.
+ Engage in continuous professional learning to stay current with education best practices.
+ Attends staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
+ Responsible managing inventory of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
Qualifications:
+ Massachusetts Educator License
+ Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
+ Sheltered English Immersion (SEI)
+ Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Massachusetts Special Education Regulations.
+ Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
+ Experience with IEP development software (e.g., Aspen, Frontline/ESPED).
+ Experience in inclusive, sub-separate, resource room, or therapeutic classroom settings
+ Experience implement trauma-informed practices.
+ Training in de-escalation strategies, or assistive technology.
+ Computer literate in standard desktop applications such as Windows, Word, and Excel
+ Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and Massachusetts Special Education Regulations.
+ Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Pay Range:
$63,331.84 USD - $80,308.80 USD
The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
