*Position Summary* Incumbents of positions in this series design electrical lighting, power and control systems; review plans, designs and costs of proposed projects; prepare technical specifications or electrical systems; inspect the installation of electrical systems and equipment; and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to ensure that electrical systems and equipment are properly designed, places and maintained in accordance with sound engineering principles and practices as applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards. Under the direction of the Senior Electrical Engineer or designee, the Electrical Test Engineer will be responsible for managing, evaluating and supervising maintenance and testing of electrical equipment within the MassDOT Highway System distribution network with in-house HV electricians, including all associated contracted work.This includes, but is not limited to, 15kV and 480 volt electrical distribution systems and equipment, emergency standby generator systems, UPS systems, pumping stations, building HVAC and tunnel ventilation systems, the pumping systems, Tunnel Ventilation, High Voltage Switchgear and Generators. The Electrical Test Engineer will provide day to day support and oversight of normal maintenance activities, including troubleshooting assistance. The Electrical Test Engineer will review maintenance records to observe trends and abnormal conditions to ensure the corrective measures can be taken to avoid equipment failures Under the direction of the Senior Electrical Engineer, the Electrical Test Engineer supports the operations of electrical, lighting and control systems for facilities, tunnels and roadways. *Duties and Responsibilities* * Review and confirm proposed Tunnel Electrical installations are in compliance with NFPA and MassDOT standards for life safety. * Develop 15kv Systemwide switching orders to maintain operation and reliability of the MHS Tunnel System * Develop Lock-out Tag-out procedures to support worker safety on equipment to be worked on by in-house or outside entities that work on any of the MHS Electrical Systems. * Verifies system testing to ensure program performance and adherence to system requirements. * Coordinates schedule for all electrical system testing along with testing of the System Control and Data Acquisition device points for electrical and building systems. * References baseline testing levels for equipment. * Design, develop and execute tests for electrical equipment to ensure safety, performance and compliance with specifications. * Oversee testing processes, ensuring runs meet timelines and standards. * Analyze test results, document findings and report to Senior Electrical Engineer. * Consult with and advise Engineers, contractors, and High Voltage Electricians on electrical testing problems/issues and provide corrective action. * Leads the training efforts for the electrical staff. * Assists District 6 Facilities Engineering with maintenance problems. * Provides troubleshooting/technical support for preventive and corrective work order related issues. * Reviews test procedures and updates as necessary. * Coordinates with City, Municipal, State, and outside agencies. * Responds to facilities, roadway, and tunnel incidents and emergencies 24/7. * Supports other Facilities and District 6 Departments. * Oversees and manages service contracts. * Review and Approve Electrical contractor and consultant electrical equipment and cable test plans. * Ensures that correct safety procedures are being followed. * Performs other related duties as required. *This position is eligible for a five-thousand dollar ($5,000) signing bonus (“Signing Bonus”) if you are newly hired at MassDOT. Current MassDOT employees are not eligible for the Signing Bonus. The Signing Bonus will be paid in two parts: 1) $3,000 (less applicable taxes) included in the employee's first paycheck. 2) $2,000 (less applicable taxes) after the successful completion of the employee’s probationary period.* *About MassDOT * The 4,000 employees of Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) take great pride in connecting the Commonwealth’s residents and communities. Applicants must have at least (A) six years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in electrical engineering work of which (B) at least three years must have been in a professional capacity, and (C) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory, managerial or administrative capacity or (D) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions I. An Associate's degree with a major in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.* II. A Bachelor's degree with a major in electrical engineering may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.* III. A Graduate degree with a major in electrical engineering may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience and one year of the required (B) experience.* *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of one year of the required (B) experience. No substitutions will be permitted for the required (C) experience.
