    Join the Excel Automation and Copilot Host team for an opportunity to influence and impact hundreds of millions of daily users across almost every country in the world while working within a vibrant and friendly engineering team within the Excel Product Group.

     

    The Excel Automation and Copilot Host team is responsible for building innovative Office Extensibility platform and enable 1st and 3rd party developers to deliver solutions on top of Office clients that integrate directly in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook across all the platforms (Win32, Web, Mac, and iOS). We are seeking a **Principal Software Engineering Manager** to lead the Service Delivered Experiences for 1st and 3rd party apps with a focus on improving reliability, performance and hosting experience for Copilot within Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead a team of Software Engineers and work with other experienced Software Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Designers and cross-functional teams to deliver high quality solutions across platforms (Win32, Web, and Mac) that ship to hundreds of millions of customers around the world.

    + Guide the team members and lead identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

    + Design, develop, debug, and refactor code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment.

    + Collaborate across organizations and directly with partners both in Office and MSAI, including other engineers and product leaders.

    + Guide the team to drive multiple project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.

    + Role model and evangelize using AI tools to responsibly boost productivity.

    + Operate with a passion for customers, data-driven decision making, product quality and test engineering.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

    + OR equivalent experience

    Other Requirements:

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

     

    + **Microsoft Cloud Background Check:** This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript

    + OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript

    + OR equivalent experience

    + 4+ years people management experience

    + 4+ years experience developing, shipping, and maintaining one or more large scale Windows, Mac, or Web applications.

    + 3+ years experience managing and shipping projects to production, growing, coaching and mentoring talent, hiring top engineers.

    + Current expertise in performance and reliability improvements for both Web and Win32 applications, or a strong interest in learning

    + Chromium / WebView2 embedding and debugging.

     

    Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
