Primary Function
The A/V Technician oversees, monitors, operates, and maintains mission critical audio and video infrastructure, utilized by the company, the Department of Legislative Services (DLS), and visiting guests. In addition, the A/V Technician communicates and coordinates with integrators to service, repair, update, or replace equipment in a timely manner as required. The A/V Technician reports to the ITO-AV manager. The Information technology Office is the primary support group for the company. The services of ITO include design, development, maintenance, telecommunications, and support of custom legislative systems such as legislative bill drafting, bill status, chamber, and committee automation systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
A/V Infrastructure Support
Maintains the readiness of all A/V presentation and live streaming systems to comply with the following state and federal regulations:
Maryland's Open Meetings Act
The Public Information Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act
Project Support
Reviews initial project proposals with AV Manager and team members.
Provides sound recommendations, based on research and experience, during entirety of project life cycle.
Service Support
Assist with the successful completion and testing of all AV integration projects.
Assist team members with day-to-day operations.
Assist third-party integrators, technicians, and subcontractors as required.
Platform Support
Provide committee members and their staff with support in using the companies committee conferencing, capture, and live steaming solutions, as well as, other in–house applications and presentation systems located throughout the complex.
Company Hardware/Software Support:
Mediasite™ Monitor application, and its accompanying CMS (Content Management System) software are used for live stream monitoring and management of captured content and storage.
Mediasite™ encoders/recorders.
AJA HELO Plus encoders/recorders.
Zoom Workplace conference software.
BiAmp DSPs.
Brahler OS, servers, and conferencing microphones.
Crestron DM Matrix switchers, transmitter, and receiver, DM-NVX (AVoIP) encoders and decoders, main controllers, and touch panels.
Crestron XiO Cloud end-point management software.
Video Editing software.
Assisted listening device setup, distribution, and support.
Customer Service and Support
Provide technical service, support, and documentation to end-users both on and off-site.
Technical Documentation
Prepare SOPs, room health checklists, and operational user guides.
Document technical discrepancies.
Skills & Qualifications
Computer skills. Technicians use computer systems to program equipment and edit audio and video recordings. An intermediate level understanding of computers and networking, digital and analog signal processing, and the ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings/specifications are fundamental skills in this position.
Communication skills. Technicians need to communicate with/support technical and non-technical personnel at the company. Communication skills are also necessary for documenting procedures and communicating solutions to technical issues.
Problem-solving skills. Technicians need to analyze and identify equipment problems and propose possible solutions to them. Sometimes technical issues require resolution in high-pressure situations and with tight deadlines.
Manual dexterity. Technicians set up audio and video equipment and cables, a job that requires a steady hand and good hand-eye coordination and sometimes lifting equipment.
Education & Experience
Associate degree from an accredited college or university in broadcast engineering or communications technology required. Commensurate experience accepted.
1-3 years of experience working with AV networking and infrastructure required.
1-3 years of working in an enterprise hybrid conferencing environment using Zoom and Teams required.
Certificates earned in the use and understanding of various hardware/software applications preferred.
CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ certificate are required.
Availability to work extended hours throughout the Legislative session or at other periods as needed. There is a requirement to be present during the 90-day Legislative session.
