Job Summary
To provide students, staff, and guests with safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient vehicle transportation. Provide supervision, guidance, and expertise to other district mechanics.
Essential Duties
+ Perform advanced diagnostics, repair, rebuilds, and preventative maintenance on district buses, trucks, and vehicles, including diesel and gasoline engines and related systems.
+ Inspect vehicles and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and district safety laws, regulations, and policies.
+ Independently plan, schedule, and complete assigned maintenance projects with attention to safety, quality, and efficiency.
+ Prepare daily work schedules and prioritize tasks to ensure effective use of staff time and resources.
+ Provide leadership, technical guidance, and training to mechanics, bus drivers, and transportation staff.
+ Communicate regularly with the Director of Transportation regarding fleet condition, repair needs, costs, and recommendations.
+ Prepare cost estimates; review, process, and close work orders; and maintain accurate vehicle maintenance, warranty, and recall records.
+ Source, requisition, receive, inspect, and recommend cost-effective parts, materials, and supplies.
+ Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop; safely operate tools, equipment, lifts, and machinery while using appropriate personal protective equipment.
+ Respond to vehicle-related concerns, complaints, and service requests from district staff.
+ Assist with preventative maintenance planning and conduct general bus inspections.
+ Operate district vehicles as required and serve as a substitute or emergency school bus driver when necessary.
+ Perform related non-mechanical maintenance duties as assigned, including limited building safety checks, emergency response support, and snow removal.
+ Assist emergency responders during building emergencies by supporting building systems and equipment as needed.
+ Attend required safety, training, and informational meetings.
+ Perform all duties in a professional manner and maintain respectful working relationships with students, staff, and community.
+ Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ High school diploma
+ Current DOT physical
+ CDL, Class B license with Air Brake, Passenger, and School endorsement
+ Diesel & Gasoline engine ASE Certification or 4 years experience
+ Possess and maintain a driving record acceptable under state law, District policy, and insurance carrier requirements.
+ Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs and work in extreme temperatures, humid, & dusty environments.
+ Follow federal, state, and District rules and regulations related to the operation of school busses and other district vehicles.
+ Ability to utilize vehicle repair manuals & online vehicle repair media.
+ Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.
