Job Summary
Imagine a role where food, community, education, and place all come together, where what you cook helps fuel creativity, learning, and meaningful change in a rural community.
Rural Studio (https://ruralstudio.org/) , Auburn University’s internationally recognized design-build program located in the heart of Hale County, is seeking a **Supervisor of Food Services** to lead culinary operations in a truly one-of-a-kind setting.
In this position, you’ll oversee the preparation of nourishing, thoughtfully planned meals for students, faculty, and guests, with a strong emphasis on using **fresh ingredients** grown right on theRural Studio Farm (https://ruralstudio.org/project\_tags/rural-studio-farm/) . Cooking what we grow isn’t just encouraged ,it’s part of our daily practice. You’ll have the creative freedom to plan menus that reflect the seasons and support wellness.
You’ll manage all aspects of the kitchen operation, including menu planning, inventory and budget oversight, food safety, and supervision of kitchen staff, while working closely with program leadership to align meals with the academic calendar and special events.
The commercial kitchen itself is a beautifully designed space, a certified facility thoughtfully constructed as an extension ofMorrisette House (https://ruralstudio.org/project/morrisette-house-kitchen/) and connected by a classic Southern dogtrot overlooking a grove of pecan trees. It’s a place where architecture, tradition, and function meet, and where food plays a central role in community life.
Join something bigger than the kitchen. This role supports a close-knit rural town and a nationally recognized program where students design and build projects that make a lasting impact in Newbern, including the town hall, library, and volunteer fire department.
If you love food, value sustainability, and want meaningful, hands-on work in a small rural town, this role may be just what you’re looking for.
