    Work Schedule: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM

    Summary:

    Assist with surgical room preparation, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Help set up operating room, patient positioning for surgical procedure, safely prepare and transport patients for surgery, assist with room turnover , ensure a clean OR environment and the availability of appropriate supplies/equipment necessary to deliver safe and efficient surgical care. Ensure that all all supplies utilized by the anesthesia team are restocked and ensure appropriate par levels are maintained. Responsible for leading Anesthesia Tech and coordinating duties and assignments during designated shift. Responsible for assisting in the training, education and competencies and all other duties as assigned by supervisor. Participates in shift lead handoff as determined by supervisor, participates in safety huddle as well as planning for surgical procedures for the next day. Supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization Auto transfusionist also known as perioperative blood management technologist operates the cell saver machines during surgeries that expect significant blood loss. This person is responsible for collecting blood and make it available for re-infusion into the patient.

    Responsibilities:

    + Gives an accurate report to covering or relief team members.

    + Communicates with other departments regarding special supplies and equipment.

    + Uses AIDET appropriately and regularly.

    + Organizes, oversees, and participates in ORA/Anesthesia Technician special projects.

    + Assigns cleaning duties equally among ORA/Anesthesia Technician staff.

    + Assigns staff duties and room assignments appropriately on a daily basis.

    + Maintains positive working relationships with all team members.

    + Uses appropriate channels to present concerns and offers potential solutions.

    + Communicates appropriate information to Clinical Supervisor and members of the Surgical Team.

    + Manage crises in a calm manner, offer constructive solutions to improve processes Precepts new staff and assist in education and training.

    + Collaborates with anesthesia leadership in terms of problem solving as well as when implementing new initiatives/projects.

    + Identifies ways to improve employee recognition and retention development.

    + Identifies ways to improve work environment and give potential solution when problems are identified.

    + Completes duties as outlined on checklists.

    + Assists staff with coordination of items sent to or returned from SPD.

    + Maintains adequate stock of assigned supplies by ordering as appropriate.

    + Delivers and obtains items to other departments as requested.

    + Takes initiative in helping other team members.

    + Follows appropriate procedure for obtaining/returning/cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.

    + Maintains a neat work room area.

    + Assists with transporting patients as requested.

    + Assists with patient positioning for surgical procedure/regional anesthesia.

    + Assists with application of casts and traction.

    + Performs preps according to unit policy for cardiac cases.

    + Ensures that daily/weekly cleaning requirements and other tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner.

    + Checks for outdates and needed par level adjustments.

    + Checks and restocks anesthesia supplies at the end of each case and at the end of shift.

    + Checks and restocks rooms/sub-sterile areas during long cases.

    + Monitors and changes O2, CO2, nitrous oxide and nitrogen tanks as needed.

    + Setting up, operating and monitoring cell saver equipment before, during or after surgery.

    + Working under the direction of physicians, surgeons or perfusionists, technicians take a patient's blood and process it so that it is suitable for transfusion back into the body. They may need to use a variety of cell salvage techniques and equipment, including rapid infusion systems. They must also ensure that all processes and procedures are sterile and meet regulatory compliance standards.

    + Autotransfusion technicians clean and sterilize devices and equipment after use, ensuring that items that will not be reused are disposed of correctly.

    + They run regular checks to make sure that all equipment is in good working order and may take on some routine maintenance tasks.

    + They have some administrative duties, such as writing up reports on procedures to outline what happened during the autotransfusion process.

    + They may also have stocking and ordering responsibilities, checking inventory and ordering new supplies as necessary.

    + Assists in emergencies as needed.

    + Assists with physical preparation of patient and physical environment prior to surgery based on scheduled procedure, weight, laterality, and level of surgical exposure which is required to safely and efficiently perform surgery.

    + Performs all duties in a manner consistent with hospital policy and procedures.

    + Assists staff as needed for surgical preps.

    + Demonstrates flexibility in performing assignments to meet patient and staff needs.

    + Whenever necessary, assists in transporting and setting up anesthesia equipment in outlying areas and for special procedures or patient needs, e.g. MRI, Endo, Latex Allergy.

    + Assists other team members in returning equipment to their proper location.

    + Ensures that supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized fashion.

    + Demonstrates correct and safe use of equipment according to specific product information and procedure manuals.

    + Works with team to clean, restock and prepare the OR for the next case or terminal cleaning.

    + Able to set work priorities. Follows through on assignments.

    + Promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor/charge nurse and removes equipment from service and marks with appropriate tag.

    + Coordinates repair/return with clinical engineering.

    + Checks for outdates and handles appropriately.

    + Follows appropriate procedure for monitoring sterilizers and maintains records for sterilization and disinfection.

    + Participates in unit quality improvement programs.

    + Inspects room for safety hazards including conditions of equipment.

    + Ensure safe Care to patients by adhering to policies, procedures and standard of care (infection control, hazardous spill procedures and equipment handling).

    + Manage time appropriately Demonstrates competency in handling and managing endoscopes for anesthesia procedures.

    + Demonstrates an awareness of the need to reduce waste and uses supplies appropriately.

    + Precepts and trains new staff. Assists in orientation.

    + Completes all aspects of orientation and yearly competencies.

    + Seeks learning opportunities and maintains skills.

    + Attends at least 50% of Mandatory OR Inservices, and assumes responsibility for obtaining information if unable to attend.

    Other Information:

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Graduate. Able to speak and read English. Knowledge of the operating Room environment. ORA and lead experience preferred BCLS prior to independent patient transport. Perioperative Blood Technologist competency.

     

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED OR OBTAIN WITHIN DESIGNATED ORIENTATION: Good interpersonal skills. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of the operating Room environment. ORA and lead experience preferred BLS prior to independent patient transport. This position includes covering Night Day shift by call. ISTAT Certification and maintenance Accu-Chek Competency Clinical Competence in Patient Care as determined. Detail and commitment to following regulations and best practice protocols.
