This position is located at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-St. Cloud. The position supervises, directs, coordinates and gives technical guidance to licensed Plant Maintenance Engineers, Master Plumber and Refrigeration Mechanic in the operation and maintenance of the central heating plant, facility plumbing, facility heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and miscellaneous systems to ensure proper operation is maintained throughout the facility.
The position is responsible to perform the following job duties:
+ Direct the operations of the power plant for safe and efficient delivery of utilities.
+ Communicate with the Physical Plant Director concerning maintenance, projects, and plant operations in general.
+ Provide specifications for facility repair, replacement and construction projects.
+ Supervise trade and labor employees in plant operations.
+ Assist the Physical Plant Director in hiring and orientation of plant operations personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. + Current boiler license in the State of Minnesota as a Chief B Engineer or higher.
Applicants meeting the above qualification will be further assessed on the following:
+ Ability to provide effective supervision to licensed and unlicensed employees.
+ Current knowledge of State of Minnesota construction codes related to boiler operations.
+ Knowledge of health, energy, natural resources and environmental codes related to plant operations.
+ Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in operating, maintaining and repairing steam production and distribution equipment/systems.
+ Knowledge of a variety of heating systems, including high or low pressure steam, hot water and forced air systems.
+ Knowledge of HVAC controls.
+ Knowledge of automated building/energy management systems.
+ Knowledge of safety standards and the ability to establish and maintain accident prevention practices.
+ Skills in performing and overseeing the general repair of mechanical equipment, including fabrication and welding skills.
+ Computer and typing skills sufficient to enter accurate information into a work order system.
+ Skills in verbal and written communications sufficient to clearly communicate work assignments to staff; provide input on work performance; and report on completed work.
+ Interpersonal/human relations skills sufficient to provide effective supervision.
+ Ability to prepare plans and specifications, including estimating labor and material costs, for construction and repair projects.
+ Ability to handle and control emergencies within the Physical Plant, such as sewage backups, steam and water leaks, heating system failures, power outages, sprinkler system discharges, snow emergencies, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
+ Experience in supervising or providing lead work direction to other employees, preferably experience in supervising or leading licensed and unlicensed trades employees.
+ Experience working in a Minnesota Correctional Facility or other correctional or secured environment.
+ Experience supervising a multi-building facility.
+ Experience preparing the rotating schedule for a 24/7 HP power plant and ensuring the safe operation of the plant.
Physical Requirements
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a tuberculosis and respiratory screening. Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
