    Overview

    Role Purpose:

    The Community Bank Market President serves as the senior executive for the market, providing full autonomy within the region while working collectively with other Market Presidents to shape and execute enterprise-wide initiatives. This role is the leader of the market, responsible for strategic growth, community engagement, and leadership of a high-performing team, while supporting compliance alignment and fostering a strong organizational culture.

    Position Summary:

    Reporting to the President of Tompkins Community Bank, the Market President oversees local strategy, financial performance, and talent development. They maintain strong community relationships, ensure alignment with regulatory requirements through collaboration with compliance teams, and contributes to enterprise-level planning.

    Position Goals:

    + Provide Strong Leadership and Talent Development: Inspire and lead the local leadership team, set clear objectives, and promote professional growth.

    + Drive Strategic Growth and Financial Performance: Develop and execute market-based business plans aligned with corporate objectives.

    + Support Regulatory Compliance and Operational Excellence: Oversee compliance alignment and endorse adherence to federal and state regulations.

    + Enhance Community and Stakeholder Relationships: Represent the bank in the community and industry forums, cultivate relationships with clients, community leaders, and board members, and maintain a positive public image.

    + Contribute to Enterprise-Wide Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term strategic planning, provide local market input for budgeting, and identify opportunities for new products and services.

    Responsibilities

    People Leadership

     

    + Lead Team Performance: Direct team members, set performance objectives, and foster an engaged, collaborative environment.

    + Mentor and Develop Leaders: Actively mentor and coach local leaders to strengthen leadership capabilities and succession planning.

    + Foster Internal Collaboration: Build strong internal networks and foster collaboration across departments to create a unified, high-performing culture.

    + Influence External Partnerships: Engage externally by influencing community boards and partnerships to strengthen the bank’s presence and reputation.

     

    Strategic Leadership & Growth

     

    + Lead Strategic Growth: Set goals, develop strategies, and implement systems to drive the bank’s growth and success.

    + Contribute to Enterprise Strategy: Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term planning, assess market trends, and recommend new products or services.

    + Participate in Leadership Committees: Serve as a key member of management committees and lead strategic initiatives as needed.

     

    Financial & Operational Management

     

    + Monitor Financial Performance: Track progress toward annual plans, profitability, liquidity, and risk management; make informed decisions to maintain financial health.

    + Manage Budgets and Resources: Provide local input for enterprise-wide budgeting and allocate resources effectively.

    + Ensure Compliance and Risk Management: Maintain adherence to regulatory requirements, participate in audits, and stay current on industry regulations.

    + Leverage Technology: Identify and implement technological solutions to improve efficiency and enhance customer experience.

     

    Business Development & Community Engagement

     

    + Drive Business Development: Actively participate in market-based initiatives in a defined region, set measurable objectives, and ensure accountability for results.

    + Build Community and Stakeholder Relationships: Represent the bank in community activities, maintain strong relationships with clients, leaders, and board members, and uphold a positive public image.

     

    Communication & Reporting

     

    + Report and Communicate: Prepare and present updates on financial performance, strategic initiatives, and key objectives to senior management and boards.

     

    Special Projects & Additional Duties

     

    + Lead Special Initiatives: Contribute to special initiatives and ad hoc assignments that support evolving business needs and personal professional development.

    Relationship Building: Builds and leverages strategic alliances across the organization to drive business goals, foster cross-functional collaboration, and eliminate silos. Promotes a culture of connectivity by engaging networks to create value and advance organizational success.

     

    Managing through Change & Uncertainty: Champions a culture that embraces uncertainty as a catalyst for innovation and leads major organizational change with clarity and vision. Develops and manages change strategies, fosters cross-functional collaboration, models adaptability, and holds teams accountable for embracing and advancing change.

     

    Customer Focus: Anticipates evolving customer needs and integrates them into strategic planning, while fostering new relationships and emphasizing exceptional service. Builds partnerships with Centers of Influence to enhance the customer experience and expand referral opportunities.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree preferred.

    + Minimum 15 years of relevant banking or financial services experience, including proven leadership in strategic planning and business development.

    + Demonstrated ability to develop teams, manage complexity, foster collaboration, and drive organizational culture.

    + Deep understanding of banking regulations, risk management, and market trends.

    + Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills; ability to manage change and execute long-term strategie s.

    Pay Range

     

    USD $300,000.00 - USD $340,000.00 /Yr.

     

    Bonus/Incentive Plan

     

    This position includes participation in a performance-based cash incentive plan. May also be eligible for Equity Grants.
