    Job Title: CAD Drafter II (Houston)Job Description

     

    The successful candidate will have an interest in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Distribution systems may be in overhead, underground, or urban residential distribution environments. Project work may include Major Underground design, joint use, make-ready, and reliability projects. Work packages will be developed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems. The role requires performing engineering calculations including structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.

    Responsibilities

    + Develop construction work packages for electric distribution systems using GIS, CAD tools, and WMS.

    + Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.

    + Prepare forestry trimming requests and facilitate permit and Right-of-Way acquisition.

    + Develop Bills of Materials and estimate project costs.

    + Advocate for customers by acquiring easements or calculating customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).

    + Design and develop work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 12kV through 35kV.

    + Comply with quality control and safe work practices while maintaining compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and distribution design tools.

    + Experience in power distribution engineering and utility design.

    + Knowledge of power delivery and electrical systems.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with distribution design tools such as Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, and MicroStation.

    + Associates Degree with 2+ years of experience in the power utility industry OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, etc. with 1+ years of experience in the power utility industry.

    + Experience with projects in distribution design using medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, and distribution automation projects.

    + Experience in the development of civil and electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.

     

    Work Environment

     

    This position is based in an office environment.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
