Mechanical Design Engineer – Launch & Recovery Systems
Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, build, activation, and continuous improvement of production tools, launch pad systems, and hardware used for recovery operations. This role requires strong technical fundamentals, end‑to‑end project ownership, and the ability to collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
+ Design, analyze, and validate mechanical systems for launch pads, recovery systems, and production tooling.
+ Own projects from concept through activation, including design, build coordination, testing, implementation, and delivery of hardware.
+ Partner directly with launch operations teams and leadership to ensure mechanical systems meet all functional, structural, and aesthetic requirements.
+ Apply broad technical knowledge to perform structural sizing, mechanism design, and trade studies based on cost, schedule, and performance.
+ Develop and present cost and schedule trade proposals to engineering leadership.
+ Generate and maintain high‑quality CAD models, drawings, and documentation using industry‑standard tools.
+ Support and collaborate daily with technicians, engineers, and managers to drive successful project outcomes.
+ Provide hands‑on support during fabrication, assembly, integration, and test activities as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
+ 1+ years of professional experience designing, analyzing, or building mechanical structures
+ Proficiency with Siemens NX (must‑have)
+ Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T
+ Experience with FEA and mechanical analysis using tools such as ANSYS, Femap, Abaqus, or similar
+ CAD experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or related tools
+ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, parts lists, and specifications
+ Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, integrated team environment
+ Self‑starter attitude with the ability to lead projects from concept through completion
+ Passion for hands‑on engineering work and support during build and test phases
Preferred Qualifications
+ Project management background in aerospace, industrial equipment, or power generation
+ Experience coordinating with operations, manufacturing, and test teams
+ Demonstrated ability to balance cost, schedule, manufacturability, and performance in engineering decisions
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Cocoa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
