Job Title: Systems Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a passionate Systems Engineer to join our Systems Development Group to support Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) products.
Essential Skills
+ B.S., M.S., or PhD degree in science, chemistry, or engineering with 1-5 years of experience depending on education.
+ Hands-on experience with DNA sequencing, including raw sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation, and NGS sequencing.
+ Previous laboratory experience required.
+ Familiarity with MATLAB, GIT, Python, or similar tools for data analysis and/or automation.
+ Previous experience with PCR is required.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to work well in teams and across scientific disciplines.
+ Passionate, self-motivated, with a strong desire to acquire on-the-job training.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and deploy a wide range of technologies including sample extraction, library prep, and sequencing.
+ Develop, execute, and document test cases for verification and validation, ensuring complete and comprehensive coverage of requirements in test campaigns.
+ Provide customer support through monitoring of runs, discussing defects, results, and progress in early morning meetings, and quality control of reagents and configurations used for customers.
+ Support the instrument fleet to learn troubleshooting techniques as needed to assist R&D and support customers.
+ Perform system integration and testing activities, verifying system performance through simulation tests and measurements, and assessing results for applicability, validity, and conformance to product requirements.
+ Work independently with general management direction to drive product development and collaborations, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
+ Keep the supervisor/project leader informed of project status, particularly significant findings and results in critical problem areas.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with a variety of laboratory devices and instrumentation, including PCR and automation.
+ Strong organizational, communication, and team skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment.
+ Experience in biotechnology or medical device development.
+ Strong understanding of DNA molecular biology.
+ Proven hands-on troubleshooting experience and skills in wet bench workflows on NGS platform.
+ Experience with statistical tools such as Python/JMP for regression analysis, ANOVA, and Design of Experiments methodology.
+ Knowledge in surface chemistry is desirable.
+ Experience in implementing workflow on semiconductor-based sensing devices or microfluidic devices is desirable.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Santa Clara, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $72.00/hr.
