Description
Seeking a Staff Engineer to perform landfill construction quality assurance (CQA) and construction technician. This position may require travel and overnight stays including some weekends, depending on job site location. Most work is in Ohio.
The Staff Engineer will start in the field, responsible for traveling to various solid waste facilities to perform on-site documentation/recording of daily activities, verifying the work contractors are doing is accurate, as well as soil testing to ensure it meets project specifications. This role can be trained and does not require prior experience. Must be comfortable living out of hotels for extended periods of time (not frequent, but occasionally expected). Will eventually move into more of an office-based role once the field work is mastered.
Responsibilities:
-Construction monitoring and documentation of construction activities at solid waste landfill facilities including field inspection and testing of soils and geosynthetic liners. On-site job training will be provided as necessary.
-Responsible for assuring overall compliance with all applicable project specifications and construction drawings.
-Supervise and complete construction quality assurance and construction quality control activities in several states, including the construction of landfill components and other environmental control systems.
-Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g., soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel).
-Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractor representatives regarding the construction site, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection results.
-Transport material samples with associated identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
-Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Weaver Project Manager.
-Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
-Adhere to strict safety standards.
-Under close supervision of higher-level technicians or staff professionals, assist on tasks and perform basic testing and observation duties.
-Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
-Communicate information to the Project Manager and discuss the accuracy of data in preparation for submittal.
-Submit documentation and communicate results as directed by the Project Manager.
-Progressively assume increased roles of training and responsibility in work assignments.
-Follow safety rules, practices, and other safety requirements for all projects.
-Perform pre-task planning prior to executing work.
-Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
-Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
-Civil Engineering degree is strongly preferred; will consider environmental engineering or construction related degrees
-No working experience required; will provide on-the-job training in the field

-Ability/ willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
-On-site construction experience preferred
-Soil sampling/ testing experience a plus
-Ability to travel across Ohio and surrounding states

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
