Job Title: Medical Assistant
Job Description
Under direct supervision, the Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. The role is crucial in promoting efficient patient flow and care, including exams and procedures. Responsibilities also include performing clinic support tasks such as clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining the physician’s schedule. The position supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities
+ Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
+ Record patient data before each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
+ Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician before treatment or procedures.
+ Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
+ Assist physicians with documentation and set up for exams and procedures.
+ Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
+ Respond to patients’ calls as requested.
+ Perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, and reception as requested by supervisor or physician.
+ Alert nurse/physician of abnormal vitals and any important information given by the patient.
+ Collect inbound meaningful use data such as flu documentation, initial height, and weight.
+ Print the medication list for the patient to review.
+ Fill out disability forms.
+ Schedule blood transfusions, therapeutic phlebotomies, and order special tests.
+ Enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.
Essential Skills
+ BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
+ Minimum three years of experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
+ Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants is preferred.
+ Experience in patient care and customer service.
+ Proficiency in EMR (Electronic Medical Records).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ High school graduate or equivalent.
+ Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
+ Certified Medical Assistant credential is preferred.
+ Some state regulations may require specific certifications to work as a Medical Assistant.
Work Environment
The position is based in an oncology office, requiring the full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. It requires standing and walking for extensive periods and occasionally lifting items weighing up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are necessary. The role involves lifting and assisting patients as requested.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brandywine, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
