Headquartered in Conyers, Georgia, Batchelor & Kimball takes pride in partnering with our clients to deliver excellent results from engineering and construction to operations and maintenance. We offer design/build and turnkey construction services, including teaming with selected subcontractors for electrical and general construction.

There’s not a lot of BS here, and not a lot of turnover. Good people work at Batchelor & Kimball. We’re good at our jobs, and good to each other. We have high expectations because the work is challenging, but we know the most valuable thing about the work is the people who do it. If this sounds like a good fit for you, we’d like to meet you!

If you are looking to grow your career and thrive in a team environment, then we invite you to apply for this position. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing the daily operations, workflow, labor resources, and production processes in our fabrication shop. The Fabrication Shop Manager plays a critical role in ensuring safe practices, efficient material flow, lean production, and consistent communication with project teams to support high-quality prefabrication and on-time field installation.

    What you’ll do

    • Coordinate and manage the Fab Tracker system, including kit production order workflows.

    • Create, implement, and maintain the material kitting process—material check-in, storage, sequencing, and station-to-station movement.

    • Manage shop foremen and oversee day-to-day workflow across all fabrication stations.

    • Work closely with General Foremen (GFs) to plan and manage shop labor resources, labor projections, and personnel certification compliance.

    • Develop, monitor, and report on shop labor budgets.

    • Coordinate with third-party quality control partners to ensure high-quality deliverables.

    • Partner with purchasing and logistics teams to ensure timely procurement, material staging, and deliveries.

    • Maintain and promote a lean production mindset, continuously evaluating processes for efficiency improvements.

    • Manage subcontractors performing work on multi-trade racks, skids, and other coordinated prefabrication assemblies.

    • Oversee inventory levels and implement strategies to minimize stored materials.

    • Collaborate with Project Managers to establish fabrication schedules and labor budgets.

    • Maintain constant communication with Project Managers regarding delivery status and production progress.

    • Manage shop tools, assets, and consumable inventory, ensuring availability and proper maintenance.

    • Establish, reinforce, and model a culture aligned with Batchelor & Kimball’s core values.

    What you’ll need (minimum qualifications)

    • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.

    • Demonstrated team leadership skills and experience directing craft labor or shop personnel.

    • Knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and mechanical system assemblies.

    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication details, and shop tickets.

    • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.

    • Strong organizational and planning abilities.

    • Proficiency with production tracking tools (Fab Tracker or similar preferred).

    • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office; experience with ERP or shop management systems is a plus.

Prior work experience and educational requirements

    • 5+ years of experience in a fabrication shop, mechanical construction, or manufacturing environment.

    • 3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.

    • Experience with prefabrication of mechanical systems, multi-trade assemblies, or similar production workflows strongly preferred.

    • Technical certifications or trade school education in welding, fabrication, or mechanical systems is a plus.
