Position Overview
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter facilitates effective communication between Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students and others in a school setting. This role ensures students have full access to classroom instruction, academic discussions, and school activities through accurate interpretation using American Sign Language (ASL) and related communication methods.
Assignment Details
+ Location: Oxnard, CA
+ Start Date: January 19, 2026
+ Duration: Approximately 36 weeks
+ Schedule: Day shift, Monday–Friday
+ Hours: 37.5 hours per week
+ Pay Rate: $42 per hour (local)
+ Modality: In-person only
+ Openings: 4 positions
Primary Responsibilities
+ Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language and vice versa
+ Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
+ Support student access to instruction, classroom discussions, and school activities
+ Adapt interpreting methods based on student needs and classroom environment
+ Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and ethical standards
+ Document services in accordance with applicable requirements
Minimum Requirements
+ Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
+ Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a related field preferred
+ State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate, if applicable
+ Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification as required
+ Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification as applicable
+ Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ CPR certification if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray per requirements
+ Current health certificate per state or contract regulation
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
