Job Purpose:
Progress Rail is searching for an experienced Electrical Engineer for our Independence, MO facility. The position will play a crucial role in the design, development, and testing of our electro-optical/infrared product lines and supporting systems. You will also assemble, test, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical components and systems. This role requires a strong understanding of infrared sensor technologies, analog/digital circuits, and signal processing. This position requires excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Job Elements:
• Design, develop, and optimize electro-optical infrared devices for our train inspection systems product line;
• Create calibration, testing, and validation plans for new EO/IR technology to ensure high accuracy and reliability under varying environmental conditions;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and firmware engineers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical components into the overall system;
• Conduct testing and analysis of electrical systems and components;
• Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements, incorporating new technologies and best practices into the design and development process;
• Create and maintain schematics, bills of materials, test plans, and other documentation;
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards.
Qualifications and Experience:
• 7+ years of experience in EO/IR system design, with a proven track record of leading the development of complete systems. Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing teams and collaborating with cross-functional departments;
• Knowledge of the photonics industry and best practices based on salary grade;
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and address technical issues;
• Strong knowledge of the photonics industry and best practices.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to a production environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting or carrying (up to 30 pounds);
• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment. Depending on assigned project, position may occasionally require motions involved in an industrial working environment, including some kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing.
• Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to a light production environment.;
• Emotional Demands – Working at a high level independently and in a team setting. Requires significant interpersonal skills;
• Safety – Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to production areas.
