Description
Amazon is seeking an experienced Food Manufacturing Process Engineer Program Manager to lead complex, cross-functional programs that optimize our food manufacturing processes and drive operational excellence. This role combines deep process engineering expertise with strategic program management to deliver transformative solutions across our food manufacturing operations.
Key job responsibilities
Program Leadership
• Manage the lifecycle of complex cross-functional programs with significant impact on food manufacturing operations, spanning multiple sites, organizations, or geographies
• Define and own program strategy, including mission, vision, tenets, and objectives for food manufacturing process improvements
• Lead large-scale initiatives focused on manufacturing process optimization, quality improvement, cost reduction, and capacity enhancement
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce operational and ergonomic risk while ensuring food safety and quality standards
• Contribute to OP1/OP2 narratives and own organizational goals related to manufacturing excellence
Process Engineering Excellence
• Define, develop, and optimize food manufacturing processes to meet design intent, reliability specifications, compliance requirements, and manufacturability standards
• Conduct process reviews, risk assessments (PFMEA), and provide manufacturing DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback
• Design and validate manufacturing processes with cost effectiveness and robustness
• Develop and qualify final assembly, test, and packaging (FATP) production processes
• Partner with equipment vendors to design manufacturing processes, line layouts, and equipment specifications
• Identify, mitigate, and resolve technical risks in manufacturing processes proactively
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
• Partner with operations teams, engineering teams, quality assurance, food safety, finance, and external suppliers to determine project priorities
• Build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
• Establish high-quality relationships with site and regional leadership
• Drive mindful discussions that lead to crisp decisions, balancing competing interests and trade-offs
• Communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes effectively through narratives, presentations, and status reports
Data-Driven Decision Making
• Analyze manufacturing data and metrics to drive process improvements and cost reduction
• Regularly review performance metrics and proactively seek improved data mechanisms for visibility
• Ensure programs stay aligned with organizational objectives through quantified metrics
• Estimate manufacturing capacity and manufacturing value-add costs
• Calculate high-level ROI and partner with finance to complete cost-benefit analyses
Quality & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, FSSC22000, and other relevant standards
• Drive manufacturing yield improvement and quality management initiatives
• Develop tools and mechanisms for continuous quality monitoring
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action preventive action (CAPA) initiatives
• Audit manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with global standards and local regulations
A day in the life
Work Environment
• Position may require up to 50% travel to manufacturing sites
• Flexibility to work various shifts as needed to support manufacturing operations
• Significant time on manufacturing floor observing processes and engaging with teams
• Ability to work in food manufacturing environments (temperature-controlled, production areas)
Basic Qualifications
- 6+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
- • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
- • 6+ years of program management or process engineering experience in food manufacturing, CPG, or related industries
- • 5+ years of experience leading complex, cross-functional programs across multiple locations
- • Experience with food manufacturing processes including one or more: dairy, meat proteins, plant-based proteins, beverages, prepared meals, bakery, or similar categories
- • Demonstrated experience managing manufacturing process optimization, equipment qualification, and capacity planning
- • Knowledge of food safety regulations, HACCP principles, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive consensus across organizations
- • Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting and communicating data-driven insights
- • Experience writing technical documentation, narratives, and presenting to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of supply chain management concepts - forecasting, planning, sourcing, optimization and logistics or equivalent
- • Master's degree in Food Science, Engineering, or related field
- • Professional certifications such as PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, or Lean Manufacturing
- • HACCP certification or Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification
- • Experience with contract manufacturing and vendor management
- • Knowledge of BRC, SQF, or FSSC22000 quality management systems
- • Experience with manufacturing automation and Industry 4.0 technologies
- • Track record of delivering measurable cost savings and efficiency improvements
- • Experience managing direct reports and developing engineering teams
- • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing execution systems (MES)
- • Experience in high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environments

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
