Our team is looking for a Roadway Engineering Group Leader/ Project Manager to lead and grow our roadway and highway design practice across Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana (OMI). In this key leadership role, you’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide cutting-edge roadway design, transportation planning, and safety solutions for state DOTs and municipalities.
Your leadership will drive project success, client satisfaction, and the development of our roadway engineering team while fostering a culture of innovation and mentorship. What You’ll Do:
• Lead and manage roadway and highway design projects, including geometric design, safety improvements, and multimodal integration for OMI.
• Develop and grow our roadway engineering team to position Jacobs as the preferred solutions provider in the region.
• Drive workforce planning and workload balancing with a focus on retention, recruitment, and career progression.
• Support MoPs and PMs in identifying resources to support transportation projects across the geography and beyond.
• Mentor and coach staff to deliver superior technical results and foster career development through Jacobs’ performance process.
• Promote a culture of quality, safety, inclusion, and innovation in all project delivery.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships to enhance project performance and secure future opportunities.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a focus on roadway/highway design.
• Proven experience delivering roadway design projects for state DOTs in OMI and municipalities, including geometric design and safety improvements.
• Established client relationships and prior experience with Ohio DOT; familiarity with Michigan DOT and Indiana DOT preferred.
• Previous experience leading teams and providing mentorship.
• Strong understanding of AASHTO design standards, roadway safety principles, and multimodal considerations.
• Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—with technical writing expertise.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana (or ability to obtain).
• Experience preparing project approaches, fee estimates, and proposals.
• Familiarity with AASHTO Green Book, Ohio DOT Location and Design Manual, and roadway design approaches.
• Proficiency in design and analysis tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcGIS, and traffic analysis software (Synchro, Transmodeler).
