Description
The Accounting Lead will oversee day-to-day construction accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, job cost tracking, and compliance with industry standards. This role partners closely with project managers, operations, and leadership to support profitability, cash flow, and scalable financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
+ Lead daily accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
+ Manage job cost accounting, including cost coding, WIP schedules, and variance analysis
+ Oversee AIA billing, progress billings, retainage, and lien waivers
+ Prepare and review monthly financial statements and project cost reports
+ Ensure accurate revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion or completed contract)
+ Manage month-end and year-end close processes
+ Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
+ Partner with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, and cost-to-complete
+ Oversee subcontractor compliance (COIs, W-9s, preliminary notices)
+ Support audits, bonding, and lender reporting requirements
+ Improve accounting processes, internal controls, and system efficiency
+ Assist in system implementation or optimization (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks)
Requirements
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
+ 2+ years of construction accounting experience
+ Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP, and AIA billing
+ Experience with construction accounting systems (Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, CMiC, or similar)
+ Advanced Excel skills
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
+ Strong communication skills with both finance and operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in multi-entity or multi-state construction environments, general contractor
+ Prior leadership or team oversight experience
+ Experience working with bonded projects and union payroll
