    CNC Machinist - Lathe

    A Snapshot of Your Day

     

    Join Our Team as a HorizontalLathe Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist where your skills will beutilized to manufacture large generator shafts for the power generationindustry. These shafts can be up to 46 feet long and weigh as much as 275 tons.Emphasis is placed on the ability to adhere to all safety requirements, followengineering drawings (blueprints) and interpret and execute manufacturingprocesses per specific work instructions and validate your work utilizingelectronic quality control documentation.

     

    CNC Lathe Machinistresponsibilities will involve performing precise setups, preparing steady restswith the proper bearings (shoes), working with licensed crane operators toprecisely load the shaft, attaching drivers and then aligning the workpiece inthe lathe. Work instructions are provided electronically with easy-to-usefeatures to record notes, ask questions and communicate with your peers as it takesnumerous shifts to fully machine a generator rotor shaft. Communication is key.You will collaborate with your technical support team on how processes can befurther improved which include both machining techniques and ability to recordcritical to quality (CTQ) dimensional features. There is an expectation toshare knowledge, resolve issues, and add your own learnings and experiences tothe knowledge base of the lathe team.     How You’ll Make an Impact

    + **Semi-finish and finish machining of largeelectrical generator rotor shafts up to 275 tons made from alloy steelforgings.**

    + **Setup and alignment rotor forgings using highlycapable steady rests to ensure precision and stable machining processes.Operation of various large scale CNC lathes such as a state of the art TacchiCNC Lathe with an 18-meter length (59 ft) and multiple large scale CNC Latheswith varying capacities.**

    + **Interpretation of engineering drawings (blueprints),electronically supplied comprehensive work instructions, and quality controldocuments to ensure accurate machining and error free results.**

    + **Inspection of work during various machiningstages using advanced measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers,indicators, electronic runout software, and gauges to verify the conformance ofmachined features to engineering drawing requirements.**

    + **Participation in continuous improvementinitiatives through application of the 5S methodology within a Lean Production System.**

    + **Provide mentorship of employees in the SiemensEnergy Apprenticeship Program, sharing your own technical expertise and providingfundamental guidance.**

    + **Maintenance of records, logbooks, charts, andinitiation of electronic or manual reports as required.**

    What You Bring

    •** **High School Diploma or GED equivalent isrequired

    •** **At least 4 years CNC lathe operations,preferably involving steady rest supports. Experience in manual turning is aplus.

    + **Less experience is acceptable if accompanied byhaving completed a 2-year degree from an accredited machinist training programwith a focus on CNC machining.**

    + **Familiarity with CNC controls such as Siemens,Fanuc, Mazak, or other machine controls.**

    + **Minimum of 2 years of experience using basicmeasuring instruments and gauges.**

    + **Proficiency in interpreting G and M codes andunderstanding of principles of CNC machine operation.**

    + **Strong ability to interpret complex drawings,charts, and tables, and to use precision measuring tools effectively.**

    + **Willingness to obtain fork truck and cranelicenses through Siemens Energy’s internal certification programs.**

    + **Ability to obtain an ACT® WorkKeys® NationalCareer Readiness Certificate (Silver Level or higher) as part of the pre-hireassessment. Siemens Energy will assist in scheduling the test uponshortlisting.**

    + **Physical capability to manually lift moderatelyheavy parts no more than 50lbs.**

     

    Successfulapplicants must be able to pass standard hearing, vision, and pulmonaryfunction tests or any other as required to perform the duties.
