OSP Permitting Coordinator – Columbus Market (Must Have Columbus Underground OSP Permitting Experience)
Eligibility Requirement: Only candidates who have handled permitting for underground OSP fiber projects in the Columbus/Ohio market will be considered. No exceptions.

Overview
We are supporting a fully remote role for an OSP Permitting Coordinator responsible for managing permits for underground fiber construction supporting data center connectivity in the Columbus, Ohio market.
Candidates may live anywhere in the U.S., but must have direct experience pulling permits for underground OSP fiber projects with Columbus-area municipalities and utilities. Candidates outside the Columbus area may be considered only if they have successfully completed permitting work in these specific jurisdictions.
This requirement is strict. Experience in other markets will not be accepted.
This role focuses exclusively on underground permitting coordination.
What You’ll Do (Underground Permitting Responsibilities)
• Prepare, submit, and track permit applications for underground fiber construction
• Coordinate with city, county, and state agencies regarding trenching, boring, conduit placement, and restoration standards
• Review design packages for permitting completeness and accuracy
• Ensure all required drawings, TCPs, and supporting documentation meet local standards
• Maintain communication with Columbus-area AHJs throughout the approval process
• Flag potential delays or documentation gaps prior to submission
• Manage timelines, approvals, re-submittals, and follow-up cycles
• Maintain comprehensive permitting logs and compliance documentation
• Act as the permitting subject-matter expert for the Columbus region
Required Experience
• Hands-on experience submitting and managing permits for underground OSP fiber projects
• Must have permitting experience with Columbus-area agencies, such as:
+ City of Columbus
+ Franklin County
+ Delaware County
+ City of Dublin
+ City of Westerville
+ City of Hilliard
+ City of Gahanna
+ City of New Albany
+ Ohio DOT District 6
+ • Strong understanding of underground fiber construction (trenching, HDD, conduit placement, restoration requirements)
+ • Ability to interpret OSP drawings, utility maps, and traffic control plans
+ • Strong organizational and communication skills
+ • Ability to manage multiple permitting workflows across multiple agencies
+ • Candidates ideally reside in Ohio, but remote is acceptable if they have proven Columbus permitting experience
Preferred Experience
• Prior permitting coordination for fiber builders, carriers, or engineering firms
• Experience supporting underground fiber routes serving enterprise or data center builds in the Columbus region
• Familiarity with local utility stakeholders such as AEP Ohio and city/county public works departments
• Understanding of microtrenching, HDD approvals, and underground utility conflict mitigation
• Experience using client permitting portals and project tracking systems
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a permitting specialist with direct experience pulling permits for underground OSP fiber routes in the Columbus, Ohio market. They already know the expectations, processes, and workflows of Columbus-area municipalities, counties, and utilities, and they have supported fiber builds tied to enterprise or data center connectivity. Remote candidates are acceptable only if they have verifiable permitting experience in these specific jurisdictions.
They are organized, proactive, and effective at keeping projects on track through timely submissions, accurate documentation, and consistent communication with agencies. They anticipate delays or issues before they impact construction and ensure that all required materials are complete prior to submission.
They bring strong knowledge of underground fiber construction, including trenching, HDD, conduit installation, ROW requirements, and utility coordination. Experience interacting with local utilities and Columbus-area public works offices adds significant value.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
