Job Description – Structured Cabling Technician
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Structured Cabling Technician to support the installation, service, maintenance, repair, and modification of low‑voltage cabling systems. This includes category cabling, fiber optic systems, communications cabling, and other related infrastructure. The role involves hands‑on field work, equipment installation, cable pathway construction, and customer support.
This position requires travel—typically within a 2‑hour radius, though extended travel may occur. Technicians must also be available for night or weekend work as needed.
Responsibilities
+ Install, service, maintain, and repair low‑voltage cabling systems including Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic infrastructure.
+ Complete physical installation and removal of structured cabling components such as racks, cabinets, cable trays, and pathway systems.
+ Install, terminate, label, and test copper and fiber cabling.
+ Assist with equipment moves and general communications infrastructure setup.
+ Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
+ Use ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems to manage service requests and maintain accurate documentation.
+ Provide excellent customer service and communicate professionally with clients.
+ Track and maintain necessary tools, truck stock, materials, and job‑related supplies.
+ Ensure work complies with BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, NEC, and other applicable standards.
+ Complete all documentation, time entry, and task reporting accurately and on time.
+ Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of reliability and attention to detail.
+ Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
+ Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
+ 2+ years of experience installing, servicing, and maintaining structured cabling systems.
+ Proficient with installing, terminating, and testing:
+ Twisted‑pair cabling
+ Coax
+ Power‑limited tray cable
+ Single‑mode and multi‑mode fiber
+ Preferred certifications: BICSI, Panduit, Commscope, Corning, Leviton, Ortronics.
+ Strong understanding of telecom, data, security, and wireless cabling terminology.
+ Familiarity with BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, NEC standards.
+ Healthcare‑related certifications (infection control, safety, bloodborne pathogens) are a plus.
+ Able to interpret blueprints and electrical/mechanical drawings.
+ Strong communication, professionalism, punctuality, and independent work capability.
+ Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
Physical Requirements
+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
+ Adequate vision, including color differentiation and depth perception.
+ Ability to speak and hear clearly.
+ Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands.
+ Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
