    Arup is seeking a **Senior Resilience and Adaptation Engineer -** to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers and risk analysts in our San Francisco office. As part of Arup’s core **Risk and Resilience team** , you will help shape how we quantify, design for, and communicate multi-hazard risk and resilience in the built environment. You will apply advanced modeling and engineering methods to help clients make informed, risk-based decisions about building and infrastructure performance, design standards, and investment priorities.

     

    This role offers an unique opportunity to work at the intersection where **climate risk and resilience assessment informs adaptation planning and engineering,** contributing to projects that improve community safety and resilience to flooding, wildfire, landslides and other natural hazards. You will collaborate with leading experts across Arup’s global network and develop innovative approaches to integrate resilience thinking into real-world projects.

    The Opportunity

    • **Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessment:** Conduct assessments for various asset types and/or communities exposed to climate hazards to identify key risks.

    • **Adaptation Concept Design and Planning:** Contribute to or lead concept design processes for adapting buildings, infrastructure, or communities to climate risks integrating resilience and environmental metrics beyond traditional planning objectives.

    • **Multi-Hazard Integration:** Support the integration of probabilistic hazard data, climate projections, and performance modeling into design and planning projects.

    • **Project and Task Management:** Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, manage scope, budget and deliverables, and ensure technical excellence throughout.

    • **Research and Innovation:** Contribute to internal research initiatives, development of digital tools, and publication of thought leadership in the risk and resilience space.

    • **Client Engagement:** Build relationships with clients in the public and private sectors, assist with proposal development, and identify new opportunities to advance Arup’s resilience practice.

    Is this role right for you?

     

    - Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering expected, Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering/PhD degree preferred.

     

    - At least 6 years of experience expected of which atleast 4 years were focused in climate risk assessment, applied adaptation planning or related fields.

     

    - Professional certifications: Professional Engineering (PE) License in Civil Engineering, or willing to pursue licensure, is preferred

     

    - Software experience: Hazard or risk modeling experience preferred (e.g., HEC-RAS, HAZUS), coding experience in Python or similar programming language expected

     

    - A creative approach to problem-solving with a focus on continual improvement and delivering sustainable and value led project outcomes.

     

    - A desire and ability to share knowledge and proactively mentor and manage teams and individuals.

    **(** **_San Francisco_** **) Hiring** **Range** - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $135,000 to $150,000 per year. **This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level.** Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
