Function of Position:
The Associate Director of Technical Services, Technology Services, oversees the daily operations of the networking and telecommunications services. This position is responsible for college-wide network security, including intrusion prevention and detection, firewall management, authentication of network users, management of college-owned and personally owned IP devices connecting to the network (VPN and Wi-Fi), and identifying and disabling unauthorized equipment and users from the network. This position will represent Technology Services for facilities technology planning by participating in the Facilities Modification Committee, building renovations, master planning/new construction, and the Downtown Campus location. This position will assist the director with the strategic and financial planning for network and telecommunication resources, forecasting direction and growth, developing equipment standards, and managing the department's cost accounting and billing systems. This position reports to the Director of Technical Services and provides technical leadership to the current technicians.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Provide enhanced network security, including intrusion prevention, firewall management, and Wi-Fi management through secure connections for college-owned and personally owned devices to the college's network.
+ Maintain overall responsibility for 24 x 7 uninterrupted operations of the college's network systems. Assure minimal failure and emergency backup procedures.
+ Participate in the department's Standards and Procedures committee for Network Services Disaster Recovery Planning.
+ Develop innovative methods and processes to provide quality customer service to the college community.
+ Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to achieve the college's strategic and technology plan goals.
+ Practice self-directed learning of new network, system, and hardware technologies as they are embraced by the college. Stay up to date on technical and management issues.
+ Remain available 24 x 7 and participate as a member of the on-call staff. Work weeknights and weekends as needed to facilitate network and system upgrades and maintenance.
+ Assist the Director in evaluating service providers, hardware, and software products, and contract negotiation.
+ Assist with the evaluation of individual and team performance, provide technical leadership, formulate department and individual goals, hold weekly staff meetings, and write annual progress reports.
+ Assure that record keeping and documentation are kept up to date.
+ Provide vision and direction for existing and future network-based services.
+ Remain current with trends and technical developments in the industry; evaluate service providers, hardware, and software products; negotiate contracts and forward recommendations to the Director.
+ Manage the professional and civil service staff whose jobs relate to network and telecommunication services.
+ Provides the Director with a weekly updated status report on the operations of the network and telecommunications services.
+ Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
+ Earned a bachelor's degree and five years of recent management experience in network and telecommunications or a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
+ Demonstrated experience in network security practices and procedures.
+ At least two years of experience successfully performing the following functions: staff management, staff recruitment and training, project management, project implementation, and management oversight.
+ Strong interpersonal/communication, presentation, and public relations skills.
+ Ability to operate with multi-cultural sensitivity.
+ Commitment to self-learning, emerging technologies, and working in a team-based environment with expanding activities and quickly changing technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Earned master's degree or higher in network and telecommunications or a related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
+ Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $72,000 to $108,226 and is based on the aforementioned factors.
This position requires full-time onsite attendance. After one year, the remote work from home policy can be re-evaluated based on supervisor approval and operational needs. MCC offers a Flexible Work Policy for benefit-eligible employees. Types of flexible work arrangements include flextime/staggered shifts, remote work/telecommuting, and compressed work schedules. The availability of flexible work arrangements varies by division, department, and position, based on business and operational needs. Limitations to flexible work arrangements are outlined in the official policy.
Prohibition of Remote Work Outside New York State: Remote work locations outside New York State are not authorized by the College due to out-of-state tax and regulatory implications. In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short-term, temporary basis.
