    Overview

     

    PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking an experienced **C-17 General Mechanic II** to support aircraft maintenance and modification operations at our San Antonio, TX location. This is a **100% onsite** role requiring hands-on mechanical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to support mission-critical workloads.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures and structural components.

    + Troubleshoot and repair airframe, power plant, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, mechanical components, and flight controls.

    + Utilize aircraft systems knowledge to diagnose malfunctions and restore full operational condition.

    + Interpret and apply technical documentation, blueprints, engineering drawings, technical orders, and manufacturer manuals.

    + Perform close‑tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation in critical structural areas.

    + Locate blind holes and install new structural items onto existing structures.

    + Complete sealing, painting, shimming, and corrosion‑prevention processes per standard repair procedures.

    + Use tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot‑level structural modifications and repairs.

    + Work safely in accordance with Hazardous Energy and Lockout/Tagout requirements.

    + Support cross-functional teams (mechanics, avionics, electrics) to meet schedule and cost goals.

    Physical & Environmental Requirements

    + Ability to ascend/descend vertical ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift 35 lbs.

    + Occasional 2-person lifts for items over 50 lbs.

    + Frequent standing, walking, reaching overhead, balancing on ladders/stands, or working on elevated platforms.

    + Occasional squatting, crawling, bending/stooping, lying down, and using foot controls.

    + Exposure to noise, metals, and hazardous materials.

    + Ability to pass visual acuity and color‑perception tests.

    + Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.

    + Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

    + Must obtain and maintain required certifications and pass an assessment at the end of training.

    Basic Qualifications

    + **4+ years of hands-on experience** performing the duties listed above.

    + Experience using basic hand tools in technical or mechanical environments.

    + Experience working with aircraft systems such as hydraulics, flight controls, fuel systems, engines, landing gear, or interior/exterior components.

    + Experience in aircraft repair, modification, and/or tooling operations.

    + Ability to work variable shifts and maintain regular, predictable attendance.

    + Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement of this request.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Experience working specifically on **C-17 aircraft** .

    + Experience in **heavy aircraft maintenance** .

    + Ability to operate forklifts and electric-powered elevating equipment.

    Education & Experience

    + High School diploma or GED **and** typically 3+ years of relevant aircraft maintenance experience, **OR** an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., vocational or technical school).
