Job Description
Core Responsibilities
1. Metadata Capture & Documentation
• Identify and document business terms, processes, and reference data related to data assets.
• Capture business and technical metadata in enterprise data catalogs (e.g., Collibra), including definitions, business rules, naming conventions, and classifications.
• Maintain metadata as new critical data elements are identified or business rules change.
2. Metadata Quality & Governance
• Facilitate alignment among stakeholders to agree on business terms and definitions.
• Review and approve metadata according to defined criteria.
• Certify metadata to ensure it meets organizational standards.
• Establish communication plans to keep stakeholders informed of metadata updates.
3. Data Lineage & Inheritance
• Assist with capturing and documenting data lineage (the flow and transformation of data across systems).
• Support proof-of-concept initiatives for metadata inheritance workflows, ensuring that metadata properties are propagated correctly across platforms.
4. Data Access & Stewardship
• Serve as a Metadata Owner or Approver for catalog entities, maintaining catalog attributes, reviewing access requests, and certifying access.
• Ensure only individuals with a business need maintain assigned access permissions during access review and approval tasks.
5. Collaboration & Training
• Collaborate with data architects, engineers, business data stewards, and subject matter experts to ensure metadata accurately represents data assets.
• Provide training and support to staff on metadata-related topics and tools.
6. Data Profiling & Issue Resolution
• Conduct data profiling to uncover anomalies and inconsistencies in metadata.
• Monitor and resolve metadata-related issues, contributing to data governance and quality initiatives.
7. Enablement for AI & Analytics
• Publish metadata in enterprise data catalogs to improve data usability and enable advanced analytics and AI initiatives.
• Activate metadata to monitor real-time usage and support data science and business intelligence efforts.
