    The Department of Comparative Literature at Binghamton University, State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Comparative Literature with an emphasis on teaching writing in literature classes, especially in comparative literature/world literature.

     

    The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per semester. Some of the courses will be lecture-format general education courses taught with the assistance of graduate TA's. The teaching load includes both large lecture courses and smaller discussion courses. At Binghamton University, the gen-eds are defined by learning goals, not set syllabi, and we value instructor autonomy.

     

    We seek candidates who have experience teaching composition in comparative literature context, and who are engaged in the study of best practices in teaching college writing. We are especially interested in candidates with teaching experience in transnational and intercultural contexts as well as a knowledge of developments in the field of Comparative Literature. Departmental service is also required.

     

    Initial appointment is for up to three years, beginning fall, 2025, with the possibility of renewal.

    Job Requirements:

    Required:

    + Ph.D. in Comparative Literature or a related field by August 18, 2025

    + Experience in teaching writing/composition in the undergraduate literature classroom.

    + Interest in outreach across departments and disciplines.

    Preferred:

    + Experience in teaching writing/composition in comparative/world literature classes.

    + Experience in teaching in transnational and intercultural contexts.

    + Experience in leadership with graduate pedagogy or student mentoring.

    + Experience in teaching courses that focus on pedagogy and didactics.
