    Upward Bound (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6018434&targetURL=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7jhjlNCdoI) at Boston University is a federally funded TRIO program, whose purpose is to prepare 86 low-income and first-generation college bound students for success in higher education. The goal of the program is to prepare students for success in college. Students enter the program in either grade 9 or 10 and continue in the program through high school graduation. Program services include an academically rigorous six-week summer residential program, as well as afternoon classes and tutoring during the school year. Applicants must attend one of five target high schools: Brighton High, English High, Community Academy of Science and Health, Margarita Muniz Academy and Snowden High; or live in one of four target neighborhoods: Dorchester, East Boston, Mattapan and Roxbury.     The Boston University Upward Bound Program Manager has both management and direct service responsibilities including the development of the program's curriculum; working with the Upward Bound Math Science Program Manager to hire, train, and supervise program teachers; providing college application, financial aid application and academic advising and support services to participants; arranging college visits; conferring with program teachers and teachers at target high schools regarding student achievement; management of participant academic assessments; connecting across departments and units at BU and the community through website content creation and social media; and supporting the project director in the preparation of project reports, participant recruitment, and liaising with parents of project participants and staff at target schools.

     

    Upward Bound staff are dynamic, mission-driven, professionals who foster collaboration, inclusion, and belonging to advance every aspect of our program objectives. This is a fulltime salaried position and is eligible for the University's comprehensive benefits program for staff. The position is fully on-site and located on the world-renowned Boston University campus.

    Essential Functions:

    + Curriculum Coordination (25%): Hire, train, and supervise teachers. Oversee placement testing. Coordinate classroom supplies and materials. Provide input into the content of classes. Create class schedules for participants.

    + College Advising (25%): Conduct college application and financial aid counseling for project's seniors. Arrange and conduct college visits for project participants. Match project participants with organizations for scholarships and other postsecondary opportunities. Teach the Senior Seminar class.

    + Program Recruitment and Oversight (20%): Recruit and retain program participants. Regularly review student performance and address disciplinary issues. Interview potential participants and make recommendations of acceptance/rejection to project. Evaluate MCAS scores and transcripts to place participants on a track (schedule, classes, coursework) to help them improve.

    + Outreach (5%): Work with project directors to liaise with the parents of project participants and staff at target high schools. Leverage social media to conduct outreach. Attend parent orientations and recruitment events. Make classroom visits.

    + Project Management (15%): Maintain records to track achievement of program objectives. Assist project director with data collection for reports and program evaluation including participants' end of year high school transcripts, state test scores, and first year of college schedules; and assist with in planning project budget.

    + Special Activities Planning (10%): Plan and implement summer community service and other educational opportunities that are supplemental to Upward Bound core curriculum. Assist project director in planning and supervising field trips and special events.

    Required Skills

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's Degree

    + Two years of supervisory experience in prior roles

    + Prior program evaluation and curriculum development experience

    + Prior experience working with underserved and disadvantaged youth

    + Ability to communicate students' needs in a variety of subject areas to a wide range of stakeholders including staff, faculty, graduate students, high school teachers, counselors, and administrators.

    + Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Master's degree

    + Coursework in education or other coursework that is relevant to the Upward Bound program objectives

    + Ability to speak multiple languages

    + Prior work experience at Upward Bound, TRIO, or similar educational opportunity programs
