As the Director of Tech Talent, you will be directly responsible for driving the strategy and execution of The Tech Academy, Tech Development Programs, and community training needs. The M&T Tech Academy was created to build and expand the tech ecosystem in the Western NY area. Utilizing modern learning practices to develop new tech talent, the Tech Academy strives to be one of many community partners helping Western NY become a top destination for technology talent. Additionally, M&T’s Tech Development Programs are core pipelines into our organization bringing in talent through apprenticeship, internship, and rotational development programs grounded in providing the training and support top talent and mobility at M&T.

    As the Director of Tech Talent, you will be responsible for:

    Owning and executing the vision and mission of Talent at M&T Tech specifically:

    + Defines and operates the Tech Academy's roadmap to meet the demands of upskilling and reskilling technologists at M&T

    + Delivers talent development programs of talent (e.g., apprenticeship, development programs, internships) that sustainably meets the needs of the Technology organization

    + Work with community stakeholders to identify the needs to upskill and reskill members of our community through the Western New York Tech Workforce Coalition and other partnerships

    + Developing effective partnerships with executive leadership at M&T to ensure the roadmap is aligned with a clear vision

    + Defining and managing to success using a data driven approach (using OKRs and KPIs to measure performance and inform strategic decisions)

    + Managing all operations of talent training, programs, and operations

    + Leading a cross-functional team prioritizing team resources against goals and objectives

    + Working with our many community partners to ensure we have alignment on the broader initiatives to increase the technical literacy of our local workforce/community

    + Constantly reviewing industry trends and evaluating program to positively evolve our training and programs

    + Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite

    + Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management

    + Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank Tech brand

    + Complete other related duties as assigned

    Competencies a successful candidate would have:

    + Operational experience building, maturing, and scaling businesses or operations

    + Technical acumen to best define technology training needs, learning journeys and curriculum

    + The ability to work cross functionally to meet and prioritize the demands of community members, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership

    + The ability to build, drive and articulate strategic direction including gathering the right resources and stakeholders together to execute

    + The ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders, with intention and a sense of urgency

    + Ideally, having experience building, delivering, and operating in a Learning and Development or Education environment

    Education and Experience Required:

    + Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 9 years' relevant work experience or in lieu of degree, a combination of 13 years' higher education and/or relevant work experience

    + Minimum of five years management experience or large program leadership experience

    + Prior experience building and delivering programs to increase overall impact

    + Experience working with local community partners towards a shared vision and goal

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    + Prior experience successfully aggregating and synthesizing data to present to senior leadership

    Education and Experience Preferred:

    + Building technology curriculum and/or working with vendors that specialize in building technology curriculum to upskill or reskill professionals

    + Previous leadership experience with Tech training, Technology Bootcamps or Literacy Programs or Technology Workforce Coalitions

    M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $118,945.80 - $198,243.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
