Role purpose

**Vice President Clinical Services Lines, West Region BJC/Saint Luke’s** will be responsible for the strategic direction for the clinical service lines across Saint Luke's Health System.

The Vice President, Clinical Service Lines leader will have 5 direct reports and matrixed reports that include dyad leaders for cardiac services, neuroscience, women’s services, oncology, and behavioral health.

Essential accountabilities

In partnership with the medical group, hospital Presidents and the BJC Health System strategy team, this role is responsible for organizing business strategy and ambulatory initiatives and growing the service lines within specific markets. Working in a matrix model and in partnership with physician leadership within each service line, this individual will support the organization in the execution of specific business plans as well as the implementation efforts of system leadership teams, and act as a strategic growth advisor to leaders throughout the region. The principal responsibilities of this key leader will include managing the growth and development and quality improvement of the service lines to support the organization’s efforts to respond to the needs of the community, physicians and customers; enhance the BJC/Saint Luke’s brand; and provide a competitive advantage for the organization in the external marketplace.

Will establish and lead a cohesive organizational structure that supports the hospitals and care continuum and provide operational oversight for selected clinical activities and programs, which also support clinical research initiatives. Responsible for the financial viability of the clinical service line initiatives, which consist of developing annual operations and capital budgets. Responsible in establishing collaborative relationships with various departments, leadership, direct staff, clinicians and other specialists that are integral parts of the development of the individual service lines. Serve as a member of the Saint Luke's clinical service line senior executive team and Saint Lukes Hospital operations team.

Position requirements

The Vice President, Clinical Service Lines will have the following combination of skills and experience:

+ Minimum of 10 years of experience and at least 6 years of hospital operations leadership experience.

+ Master’s Degree

+ Clinical background is preferred

+ Comfortable working in a complex matrix organization.

+ Strong sense of mission and an active, engaged leadership style.

+ Strategic thinker with the ability to partner with executive and system leadership in strategic and tactical planning and implementation.

+ Highly successful in driving change within an organization.

+ **History of progressive leadership in a highly matrix healthcare organization** – He/she will have a track record of leading a team of talent advisors efficiently and effectively to meet system/organizational goals.

+ **Interpersonal relationship building** – The VP Clinical Service Lines must be a team player and have a history of establishing him or herself as a competent leader with all members of an Executive Leadership Team. We seek an outgoing personality who will enjoy building and growing relationships at all levels of BJC Health System and Saint Luke’s Physician Group and serve as an advocate in the communities it serves and across the system.
