Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a **_Laboratory Technician_** who will spend a majority of effort/time dedicated to a research project. This will include investigating the role of the DNA repair and nucleotide metabolism in prostate cancer disparities. As well as being dedicated to laboratory maintenance and experimental assistance to support the general research activities in the laboratory.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
+ Mouse handling and treatment experience.
+ Basic science techniques.
+ Translational research knowledge.
+ Problem-solving skills.
+ Reading of the relevant literature.
+ The candidate will be trained by Dr. Kimiko Krieger and senior lab members to perform experiments required by the project.
+ These experiments will involve mouse work, cell culture, genetic silencing approaches, genetic cloning of DNA plasmids, gel and protein electrophoresis, immunofluorescence microscopy, and other cell and molecular biology techniques.
+ The candidate will meet regularly with Dr. Krieger to plan experiments and discuss results, and he/she will also be expected to present his/her data at group meetings.
+ Preparing solutions and media following standard formulas and procedures.
+ Preparing buffers, reagents, and drug stocks.
+ Ordering of supplies.
+ Maintaining mice.
+ Maintaining lab organization.
+ Arranging for repair and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
+ Complying with biohazard safety standards.
Minimum Qualifications
+ High School Diploma or graduation equivalent with some science coursework.
Preferred Qualifications
+ One to two years of laboratory research experience.
+ Prior experience working with mice, microscopy and/or basic molecular biology is desirable.
+ Certificate from technical institute or internship experience.
+ Training Certificate from Technical Institute.

Starting Salary Range: $15.40 - $23.25 HRLY (Commensurate w/exp.)

Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am – 5 pm
