    Position Summary:

    Provides Radiation Oncology Department with physics services to ensure a high level of radiation treatment quality and patient/staff safety. Participates in radiation equipment/software quality assurance program, treatment planning procedures, brachytherapy and special procedures, ensuring radiation equipment performance/maintenance, radiation safety and staff training.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Establishment of radiation beam characteristics for clinical usage.

    2. Radiation therapy equipment calibration and quality assurance.

    3. Assists in complicated simulation and patient setups.

    4. Treatment planning consultation with clinical and medical staff.

    5. Treatment planning (external beam, brachytherapy), dose calculation/check.

    6. Fabrication of treatment aids.

    7. Brachytherapy source storage, inventory, accountability, safety handling, ordering and procedure preparation.

    8. Record keeping and regulatory compliance.

    9. Assists with facility planning, shielding design and evaluation.

    10. Regulatory compliance, license renewal and amendment.

    11. Radiation safety and radiation protection for the cancer center, and staff training.

    12. Attends Radiation Safety Committee.

    13. Participates in department quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.

    14. Performs other duties as required or requested.

    Qualifications:

    _Required:_

    + Master’s or Doctorate degree in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics program.

    + Passed Part I of the American Board of Radiology in certification examination in Therapeutic Medical Physics and eligible to take Part II of the test to obtain this certification

    + Must obtain certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics within two years of employment.

    + Two years of prior work experience as a Medical Physicist or Medical Physics Resident in a full-service radiation therapy center.

    + Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of networks and interfaces.

    + BLS within 90 days of hire
