    Job Summary

    The Trauma Registrar is responsible for the validity of all trauma registry information including the accurate identification of appropriate patients and all aspects of trauma coding. Assists with projects under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager that support education, research, and goals of the Trauma Program. Maintains compliance with all health systems policies and procedures.

    Essential Functions

    + Accurately enters and maintains trauma patient data into the trauma registry database.

    + Ensures completeness and accuracy of trauma data, including demographic, clinical, and outcome information.

    + Verifies the integrity of data by reviewing records, ensuring consistency with patient charts, and performing routine data audits.

    + Generates reports for internal and external stakeholders, including trauma surgeons, administrators, and regulatory bodies.

    + Assists in the preparation of trauma performance improvement (PI) reports, as well as quality assurance documentation for accreditation purposes.

    + Tracks trauma outcomes, including mortality and morbidity rates, length of stay, complications, and other key performance indicators.

    + Ensures compliance with state and national trauma registry guidelines, including those set by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and other accrediting bodies.

    + Assists in the preparation for trauma center re-certification and audits, including reviewing case files, updating records, and providing necessary documentation.

    + Works closely with trauma surgeons, emergency department staff, and other clinical team members to obtain relevant data and ensure the accuracy of registry information.

    + Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager/Director to identify areas for improvement in trauma data collection and reporting.

    + Adheres to confidentiality standards, including HIPAA regulations, and ensure all patient information is protected.

    + Ensures data security and comply with hospital and regulatory data governance policies.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    + Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    + 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in trauma services, medical records, or data entry required and

    + 1-2 years of experience with trauma registry databases (e.g., NTDB, TRACS, or similar systems) and familiarity with ICD coding preferred

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Excellent organizational skills; strong detail-orientation and follow-up capacity; ability to multitask.

    + Demonstrated ability to nurture relationships.

    + Ability to keep team focused on goals/timelines.

    + Strong data analysis skills that require interpretation of clinical results to develop program improvement projects.

    + Knowledge and use of medical terminology.

    + Organized and detail-oriented.

    + Knowledge of patient rights and laws relative to those rights, such as HIPAA

    + Time management and organizational skills.

    + Knowledge of trauma registry systems, TOPICS course, and ICD-10 coding.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + ATSRCB - Certified Trauma Registrar preferred
