    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or logical assignment to the position.

     

    + Plans, organizes, coordinates and implements a variety of community and human service programs for senior citizens in the Muckleshoot Tribal community.

    + Drive a commercial vehicle with air brakes.

    + Maintain strict confidentiality.

    + Plan and coordinate travel arrangements.

    + Administer medications while on trips or in case of emergency.

    + Organizes and supervises classes, workshops and activities for senior adults.

    + Surveys the interests and needs of seniors in the community; relays this information to program management to assist in program development.

    + Prepares for publication a variety of brochures, calendars, newsletters, posters, news releases, flyers and related communications regarding senior programs.

    + Responds, in person or on the telephone, to inquiries about senior services and programs.

    + Provides information and referral services for a variety of social services available to senior citizens within the community.

    + Drives a van to provide transportation services for seniors for field trips and other excursions.

    + Prepares and maintains related records and other documents, as required.

    + Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

    EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    Equivalent to an associate’s degree in recreation, geriatrics, social services or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience working with seniors is required. A valid Washington State commercial driver’s license (CDL), first aid and CPR certification are required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    The equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program.

     

    Ability to be creative, crafts/production

     

    Senior recreation philosophy, planning and administration;

     

    Operation of personal computer, including word processing, Publisher, Excel and other applicable software; office equipment (fax/copy machine, mail/stamp machine)

     

    Operation of commercial vehicles with air brakes as well as other tribal vehicles

     

    Data Entry

     

    Operate a chair lift

     

    Knowledge of surrounding area tribes and reservations

     

    Some medical knowledge (i.e.: handicap assistance)

     

    Ability to monitor and track stats

     

    Ability to communicate with community and outside personnel, as well as other organizations

     

    Developing, coordinating and directing varied activities involved in a community seniors program;

     

    Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, Tribal and community leaders, and Tribal members general public;

     

    Communicating effectively orally and in writing; phone etiquette for reservations

     

    Organization and time management

     

    Ability to do presentations to small or large groups

     

    Customer service skills

     

    Interpersonal and human relations

     

    Ability to work independently and with supervisor at all times

     

    Ability to receive direct instruction

     

    Ability to act in a professional manner in attitude and performance

     

    Knowledge and skill of cultural crafts

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderate when in the field.
