Job Description

Performs Cytologic evaluation of specimen in accordance with departmental testing procedures and policies

Qualifications

+ Bachelor?s Degree; must have graduated from a cytotechnology training program (CAHEA approved)

+ 0- 10+ years of experience.

+ NYS Cytotechnologist license required

Responsibilities

1. Prepares diagnostic reports

2. Functions as Quality Assurance Coordinator in the absence of the Assistant Cytologist and Chief of Service by seniority

3. Assumes duties of the Assistant Cytologist in the absence of the Assistant Cytologist by seniority

4. Performs microscopic evaluation of cytologic specimens according to laboratory procedures and workload policies

5. Prepares a final diagnosis and signs and dates the final report on negative gynecologic specimens

6. Prepares provisional diagnosis, signs and dates worksheets on all other cases, and refers these for review

7. Prepares smears of radiologically guided FNA for the Pathologist to evaluate

8. Maintains accession book diagnoses and files for negative gynecologic specimens

9. Maintains absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results

10. Observes professional discretion with patient information

11. Completes work consistently within acceptable time limits

12. Assumes specimen preparation duties as required

13. Follows all established policies as outlined in the divisions procedure manual

14. Maintains accurate individual workload and other appropriate records as required by the laboratory and various regulatory agencies

15. Performs routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation

16. Meets criteria for competency assessment in all areas

17. Remains familiar with and observes laboratory safety practices

Compensation Statement

Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $57.6975 - $70.945 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
