    The Blood Bank Lead CLS is responsible for the daily operations of the transfusion service, including review of records and oversight of equipment maintenance. Individual is responsible for the validation, development and/or implementation of new procedure, policies, equipment and software updates in the blood bank. The BB Lead maintains the lab registrations with ICBBA and FDA, and participates in renewal process of laboratory Biologics license. The BB Lead CLS is also responsible for training and competency of all lab staff assigned to work in the department. BB Lead CLS completes the monthly and quarterly QA/QC reports and completes BPD reports.

    EDUCATION

    _Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma._

     

    Bachelor's: Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, and one year of training or equivalent combination of education and experience meeting state requirements.

    DEPARTMENT REQUIRED EDUCATION

    OR Affiliate: Alta Bates Summit Medical Center , Bachelor's: Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, and one year of training or equivalent combination of education and experience meeting state requirements.

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

    CLSL-Licensed Clinical Lab Scientist

     

    BB or SBB Certification

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

    Minimum 5 years working experience in a transfusion service as licensed CLS

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

    In depth knowledge of requirements of CAP, ABBB, FDA and other accrediting agencies and current transfusion medicine recommendations.

     

    In depth knowledge of the operations and QC/QA requirements of the blood bank.

     

    Minimum of 2 years experience in reviewing antibody identification workups and managing blood component inventory.

     

    Demonstrates the ability to plan, coordinate, organize, direct and evaluate the operations of the blood bank.

     

    Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, physicians and other medical center staff.

     

    Skill in the recognition and analysis of problems in laboratory test performance.

     

    Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and others, including medical center staff, vendors, etc.

     

    Ability to act as role model for other staff. Adheres to all laboratory and medical center policies and procedures.

     

    Prior knowledge of computerize laboratory systems is required.

     

    Basic knowledge of computers and business applications, i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

     

    Demonstrates ability to work independently and to think critically in order to effectively solve problems. Has the ability to accept or initiate, implement and evaluate changes.

    Pay Range is $66.48 to $84.32 / hour

     

    _The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
