    Student Psychological Counselor, Office of Counseling and Wellness Services, Division of Student Affairs, Hunter College

    POSITION DETAILS

    Counseling & Wellness Services is a fast-paced, dynamic operation committed to the provision of quality clinical services, training, and education. The Student Psychological Counselor will report to the Student Counseling Director. The Student Psychological Counselor position may require up to two evenings per week.

    In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Student Psychological Counselor will be responsible for the following duties:

    + Conducts comprehensive intake assessments in order to formulate appropriate treatment recommendations

    + Conducts initial triage assessments for students who present in immediate crisis

    + Provides short-term counseling services addressing a wide array of presenting problems and symptom presentations

    + Engages in weekly individual and group supervision of graduate level trainees from various graduate clinical programs: Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, and Psychology

    + Evaluates trainee counseling sessions via live supervision and review of audio/ video recordings

    + Plans, develops, and conducts outreach events and workshops addressing a wide range of topics related to mental health and emotional wellness

    + Consults with faculty and staff with the goal of helping to assess emergent student crises and provides guidance on how to identify and engage students in distress

    + Consults and collaborates with Students Affairs staff with the goal of helping students access and utilize the multiple services available to them through the Division of Student Affairs, as well as to plan collaborative outreach initiatives

    + Participates in the assessment of clinical services, including the analysis of specified clinical outcome measures, with the goal of promoting Quality Assurance practices and to aid in strategic planning of future CWS policies, procedures, and outreach initiatives

    + Participates in intern/extern application and selection process and liaises with appropriate faculty from the trainees’ academic program

    + Participates in weekly CWS team meetings: case conference, disposition meetings, staff meeting, and peer supervision meeting

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs is preferred or a master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling is required.

    A New York State License as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling) is also required.

    Experience:

    Five+ years of related experience in social work, psychology, or mental health counseling. To meet the supervised experience requirement as a licensed Mental Health Counselor, you must have completed at least 3,000 clock hours providing Mental Health Counseling. The supervised experience must be obtained after completion of the master’s degree program required for licensure.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + The preferred candidate offers solid clinical, assessment, crisis intervention, supervisory, and collaborative skills, coupled with demonstrated experience functioning as a member of a team

    + Experience in outpatient mental health services and/or college-based mental health desirable

    + Overall flexibility, and the ability to successfully negotiate multiple demands and competing priorities, are crucial

    + Knowledge of the DSM and short-term counseling modalities required

    Salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $ 79,188 - $93,491
