    Job Description

The New York City Department of Investigation (“DOI”) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and

    entities that receive City funds.

DOI's Squad 2, which oversees the Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and the Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) as a division of ACS, seeks an experienced investigator to serve as an Assistant Inspector General (AIG). Squad 2 oversight of ACS includes investigations of all types of criminal conduct within ACS including fraud, contraband smuggling in secure juvenile detention facilities, assaults and uses of physical force, undue familiarity, subsidy fraud, conflicts of interest, time theft, and others. The Squad's work also includes reviews of how ACS has handled its child welfare cases, and systemic oversight, policy reviews and recommendations that can affect policies and protocols citywide for the City's most vulnerable youth and families.

Squad 2 is seeking an AIG who will lead and conduct criminal and systemic investigations into fraud, corruption, criminal conduct, and systemic failures relating to ACS, its employees and contractors. This position will require balancing an individual caseload with supervisory responsibilities simultaneously. The AIG will work closely with Squad managers to plan investigation strategy and steps, and to execute these case plans. The AIG will also be expected to independently conduct investigations related to the above, and to prepare and/or edit written work product derived from those investigations, such as reports and memoranda. The AIG will also conduct and lead field work, including field interviews and work within the City's secure juvenile detention centers over which DOI has jurisdiction.

If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation. In addition, because the position has a law enforcement and/or investigative function, the candidate's consumer credit history will be reviewed during the background investigation, as permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8-107(24)(b)(2)(A).
