    TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR, MANUFACTURING, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to teach, train, and mentor students using fabrication facilities as part of undergraduate and graduate courses in manufacturing and mechanical design; courses involve a variety of prototyping and production techniques, including machining, injection molding, thermoforming, waterjet cutting, 3D printing, and metrology and the use of CAD/CAM software. Will support faculty lectures by creating and delivering process demonstrations (including video and online materials); writing and revising lab assignments; leading classroom-based tutorial sessions and interactive design reviews; grading assignments, including physical prototypes, written responses, and data analysis; working closely with others to maintain the shop’s operations; organizing and delivering training on equipment operation and shop safety; assisting students in the shop; and communicating effectively to foster a positive and inclusive work and learning environment.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and/or manufacturing or a related field; a minimum of five years of hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication; in-depth knowledge of machining, injection molding, thermoforming, waterjet cutting, additive manufacturing (3D printing), metrology, and professional CAD/CAM software (e.g., Autodesk Fusion360, HSMWorks, SolidWorks, Mastercam); experience training and teaching others to use equipment and/or in design/manufacturing practice; keen safety awareness; excellent communication skills; ability to handle multiple workstreams; and comfort working with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff in a fast-paced environment. PREFERRED: Candidates with significant industrial machining experience; and experience in additive manufacturing, CNC machining, automation, and augmented/virtual reality. Job #24837

     

    Occasional night and weekend availability is needed during the academic semesters. This is a full-time, twelve-month staff position, and is not a postdoctoral, lecturer, or faculty position.

     

    This is a one-year term position and is typically renewed annually subject to continued need, available funding, and employee performance.
