The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. We deliver 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water per day to 8.3 million New York City residents and more than 1 million people in Upstate New York, and we collect and treat an average of 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day.

The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a Community Coordinator for the Green Infrastructure Grant Program under the Green Infrastructure Capital Planning and Partnerships team. DEP’s Green Infrastructure Grant Program provides funding for stormwater source controls, or green infrastructure, projects on privately owned property in New York City. Under general supervision, the selected candidate will coordinate all elements of the Green Infrastructure Grant Program. Primary tasks will include managing existing grants, which will consist of direct communication with grantees, contractors, community groups and other Bureaus within DEP, and ensuring all projects are managed professionally and in a timely manner.

The selected candidate will also assist in community outreach and program planning activities including facilitating grant workshops, assisting with the application and selection process, and managing new grant projects. Under guidance from the Private Incentives Program Manager and senior staff, the selected candidate will also review project budgets, monthly invoices, any required forms and paperwork, and other items submitted by grantees. Data entry, tracking and management will be key for this position as well as data analyses. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining project level and program level spreadsheets and reporting. Other assignments will include site visits, assisting in coordination of press events, and drafting press releases for completed projects. The Community Coordinator will also manage communications in person, over the phone, and through the Green Infrastructure Grant Program email inbox as the primary contact for the Program.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. Under the direction of the supervisor, the selected candidate may also support BEPA with day-to-day oversight and/or development of private and public property green infrastructure partnership opportunities. This work would include seeking input from community residents and community-based organizations, providing recommendations for program development, creating informational materials and coordinating community outreach.

The ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with BEPA staff, grantee/property owners, agency representatives, and the general public is expected for the position.
