UPMC Hamot is hiring a casual Professional Staff Nurse to join the 3 South Observation unit!
_Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience._
**Purpose:** The Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert is a Registered Nurse who actively seeks opportunities for process improvement and sets the standards for the level and quality of care. This role involves holding responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The nurse manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. Additionally, the Professional Staff Nurse, BSN, Expert establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. This nurse also demonstrates a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.
Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrates a passion for developing others, precepts students, graduate nurses, and new hires.
+ Analyzes clinical and behavioral situations to identify learning opportunities. Regularly seeks feedback and applies continuous professional improvement.
+ Supports continuous learning by sharing research, presenting on the unit, and supporting journal clubs. Applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
+ Formulates daily goals and care plans involving patients as partners.
+ Practices solid communication skills, articulates patient conditions, and recommends changes in care. Comprehensive patient documentation to promote caregiver communication.
+ Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.
+ Incorporates goals from professional organizations and health systems to improve patient safety and satisfaction.
+ Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience. Builds and mends relationships among colleagues, role models cultural awareness, and addresses horizontal violence.
+ Maintains balance between work and personal life through prioritization and delegation. Identifies opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement.
+ Applies evidence-based practice regularly. Serves on or leads teams for patient care innovations and workforce support.
+ Serves as a role model in clinical expertise, teaching, specialized resource nursing, and evidence-based practice.
+ Provides feedback to healthcare team members and participates in peer review. Promotes changes to enhance patient care and unit environment.
+ Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment and analytical skills. Actively participates in shared governance and hospital-wide councils.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Minimum 4 years of experience, BSN required.
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution approved by the Unit Director.
+ Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
+ Understanding of growth and development principles Ability to assess and interpret patient data.
+ Positive relationships with staff, patients, and families Effective work in a complex environment with changing priorities.
+ Exemplary clinical judgment and critical thinking Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
+ Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on performance evaluations.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Act 34
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system gals, and approved by Unit Director and either: UPMC approved nursing certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer and must be maintained. Certification not required if master's in nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a master's degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of Certification.
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
