    JHU Carey Business School has a rare opportunity to join the high performing team of professionals in the Career & Life Design (C&LD) department as an **_A_** **_ssistant Director Coaching & Career Education._** Functioning as an Executive Career Coach, the Assistant Director partners with a team of program-aligned Career & Life Design colleagues to provide 1:1 and group career coaching and career preparation for full-time and part-time graduate business students and alumni. Although currently primarily aligned with the Full- and Part-time Master of Science population, this focus is subject to change based on department and school needs.

     

    Career and Life Design's mission is to partner with students through transformational methods and holistic life design concepts to empower them to realize and achieve their full professional and leadership potential. The Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C. based team include career and leadership coaches and career education professionals from diverse backgrounds who take a comprehensive approach to career and professional development/transition, providing online career education tools/resources and coaching and education serving all Carey student populations and Alumni.

    Assistant Director Coaching and Career Education (Career Coach)

    + Provides coaching and career education programming to help students realize their potential, build their professional brand, increase their readiness to network with global employers and alumni, navigate career transition/advancement/management, and achieve their unique career goals.

    + Designs and implements in-person and virtual career education and professional development programs/resources, with a focus on scaling support.

    + Builds strong, collaborative partnership with academic program leaders to align Career & Life Design support with program goals.

    + Works with program-aligned colleagues to hire, train, and manage Peer Career Advisors providing career preparation support to full-time Master of Science students.

    + Partners with cross-department colleagues to create and prepare students for networking and mentoring opportunities.

    + Works with Employer Relations team members to collaborate on industry programming and promotion of industry/employer opportunities.

    + Serves as primary resource/content point person for special topics within business career development (i.e. Strategies for International Students, Use of AI in Career Development, Case and Technical Interviews); identified topic areas/trends shared across Career & Life Design.

    + Collaborates with Career & Life Design team, Carey colleagues, JHU stakeholders, and the Director of Career & Life Design on department and cross-department/university initiatives.

     

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    _Career Education & Program Development (50%)_

    + Design and deliver in-person and virtual customized career education programs (video/online content, workshops, panels, networking events, professional development courses) and services for students.

    + Develop strategic relationships and collaborate with key academic stakeholders (program directors, academic program managers, faculty, etc.) to facilitate continuous needs assessment and the effective implementation of career development for students.

    + Assist with communication efforts to promote initiatives and resources of the Career & Life Design team via program-aligned communication channels.

    + Measure the efficacy of career education and professional development programs and use outcomes-based data to influence programming.

    _Career Coaching (40%)_

    + Coach individuals and groups in working toward achieving their career and professional development goals, providing appropriate support and accountability measures.

    + Utilize coaching techniques and resources that meet the needs of diverse populations, including international students.

    + Administer and walk-through assessments, including Career Leader and Clifton Strengths.

    + Maintain accurate and complete coaching records in Handshake.

    + Follow-up with students and alumni as needed to track progress and encourage engagement with Career & Life Design resources.

    + Educate students on effectively utilizing extensive Carey and JHU-wide career education tools and resources.

    + Partner with students to identify and make referrals (where appropriate) to opportunities and resources provided by other Carey student experience teams and throughout JHU and business ecosystems.

    _Project Management (10%)_

    + Collaborate on projects that support the mission of the Career & Life Design team.

    + Represent the Career & Life Design team on Carey and/or University-wide committees, as assigned.

    + Engage internal partners within Johns Hopkins community, notably Integrative Learning and Life Design (ILLD), in order to share resources and best practices.

    + Actively engage with professional organizations in the career development field, and follow trends, resources and innovations in the career development space.

    Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Motivated to engage with students, alumni, colleagues and others to helps students meet their unique career goals and secure meaningful career opportunities.

    + Self-starter with the ability to work independently.

    + Demonstrated ability to facilitate change and help individuals/groups from diverse backgrounds (including international students) with varying degrees of professional experience accomplish their goals.

    + Knowledge of career development theory and practice, and ability to apply this in the design and delivery of individual and group coaching services.

    + Knowledge of career assessments, including Career Leader and Cliftons Strengths.

    + Strong interpersonal, team collaboration and communication skills.

    + Ability to design and deliver impactful presentation and facilitate groups.

    + Strong attention to detail, with ability to maintain accurate records and track coaching progress.

    + Creative and innovative, with the ability to think outside of the box.

    + Ability to effectively organize and lead project teams.

    + Proficient with technology (MS Office Suite, MS Teams, Handshake, Zoom, CRM, video recording/editing) and interested in identifying and adopting technology to reach and connect with target audiences.

    + Knowledge of service delivery models and resources used in business school career services.

    + Flexible and resilient, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate change.

    + Must be willing to travel between Baltimore and DC locations frequently to meet with students, alumni and colleagues.

    + Work occasional evenings or weekends as needed (average of 2-3 Saturdays per semester; most dates can be set based on employee’s availability).

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Master’s Degree.

    + Minimum of 3 years of related professional experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or related field.

    + Three to Five years professional work experience in career coaching/counseling and/or career services.

    + Certification or licensure as a professional coach or counselor; preferred emphasis in career development/transition.

    + Experience working in or preparing graduate-level students for employment across business industries.

    + Facilitation, teaching and/or training experience presenting to both large and small groups, virtually and in-person

    Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually ($88,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)

     

    Employee group: Full Time

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday with some evenings and weekends to support student needs

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
