    This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings.

     

    Job Summary: The Endoscopic Processing Specialist is responsible for maintaining and coordinating the safe reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and equipment for the Endoscopy Department and Ancillary Departments.

     

    Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

     

    Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

     

    Work Experience: 5 - 7 years related experience.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of endoscopy related computer software and equipment. Knowledge of advanced technical skills. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts or interpretations. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Serves as expert resource for department on equipment and reprocessing. Troubleshoots equipment to minimize downtime. Performs specialty tasks as delegated by supervisor. Maintains availability of equipment, supplies and materials for maximum efficiency. Demonstrates sound judgment in response to changing unit situations. Identifies priorities and adjusts workflow to meet unit demand. Notifies supervisor of potential issues that may impact patient care. Reports service issues and implements corrective action. Assists manager in evaluating repair issues/cost containment. Monitors and assures compliance with required documentation. Monitors staff for adherence to hospital policy and regulatory requirements. Precepts and mentors new processing assistants. Orients new employees to processing area and specialty equipment. Recertifies staff members on reprocessing. Communicates effectively to resolve issues. Provides input on performance evaluations of processing assistants. Accurately completes variance reports. Maintains processing records and quality control logs to comply with hospital/regulatory requirements. Presents educational activities as needed.

     

    Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.

     

    Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
