    ACQUISITIONS EDITOR FOR BRAIN AND LIFE SCIENCES, MIT Press, will develop an overall publishing strategy for our brain and life science list and commission and develop twenty new books each year on significant topics in neuroscience, biological science and other areas as needed. With a focus on trade books, research monographs, and field-defining textbooks that will advance knowledge and pedagogy and add value to the MIT Press’s publishing program, will establish robust relationships with MIT faculty members and wider networks of advisors and prospective authors; work with peer reviewers and authors to develop the highest quality manuscripts for the widest possible readerships; actively manage a backlist of projects in these areas and serve as the primary point of contact for their authors; conduct market research to determine the needs of general readers, researchers, teachers, and students for new approaches, syntheses, and analyses of essential and emerging subject matter in biological and life sciences; commission trade books, research monographs, and textbooks in these fields; and track original and consequential research and teaching.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in a related field; a minimum of three years of journalistic or editorial experience; excellent written and verbal communication skills; robust negotiation skills; knowledge of publishing contracts and terms; knowledge of the higher education community; ability to work with academic authors; ability to deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion. PREFERRED: Advanced or bachelor’s degree in a related field; and a minimum of three years of book acquisitions experience acquiring books in the life sciences or a related field. Job #24906-7
