Position Information
We are seeking a Research Assistant in the AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton (https://overton.tamu.edu/) responsible for performing skilled, administrative, and managerial support in research. Plans and directs certain phases in a research project.
Responsibilities:
+ General cattle duties in all facets of cow/calf operation to include calving, treatment of sick cattle, feeding, hauling, weighing, which requires operating an Agency vehicle to perform duties.
+ Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.
+ Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.
+ Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
+ Evaluates and summarizes results.
+ Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.
+ Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
+ Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment.
+ Assists with purchasing, reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
+ Must be able to drive tractor and operate equipment.
+ Physical labor required. Must be able to lift or move heavy loads.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
+ Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment. Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
+ Experience in haying operations.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience with reproductive technologies (estrous synchronization, AI, ultrasonography and animal health is preferred)
Other Requirements:
+ Physical labor required.
+ Must be able to lift or move heavy loads.
+ Must be able to drive tractor and operate equipment.
