    Are you passionate about providing exceptional animal care and working alongside a dedicated team of veterinary professionals?

     

    We are seeking compassionate Veterinary Technicians to join our team and assist in the treatment of small animals admitted to our hospital. In this position, you will support veterinary staff and help to maintain a sanitary and functionally well-organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (http://vethospital.tamu.edu/small-animal-hospital) .

    Minimum Qualifications

    Veterinary Technician Assistant: High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience, and two years of experience in animal husbandry.

     

    Veterinary Technician I: Associate’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

     

    The well-qualified candidate will also possess at least one year experience in a veterinary medical setting and possess a certification as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS), with training in Emergency and Critical Care, Anesthesia, or Internal Medicine. They will also have a working knowledge of veterinary equipment used within a veterinary teaching hospital such as anesthetic machines, fluid pumps, blood gas analyzers, oscilloscopes, defibrillators, nebulizers, and endoscopic equipment, and advanced understanding of complex nursing procedures such as central line placement, ventilator management, dialysis.

    Some of the Responsibilities Include:

    + Patient Care: Provide comprehensive nursing care to Fluid Ward patients, including monitoring their physical and medical conditions, administering medications, and performing pain assessments. Monitor the medical condition of critical patients to detect any change in clinical status and provide one-on-one nursing care to critical patients. Ensure a clean and sanitary environment and assist with daily patient care tasks.

    + Medical Procedures: Execute various medical procedures as directed by clinicians, such as placing and maintaining IV and urinary catheters, bandaging, and wound management. Assist in the performance of diagnostic procedures and examinations.

    + Record Keeping: Maintain complete and accurate medical records including patient’s physical and medical status, medications administered, and changes in medical orders. Capture and input fees into the VMIS system.

    + Emergency Care: Deliver life-sustaining emergency care, including CPCR, defibrillation, and oxygen therapy, to ensure patient safety during critical situations.

    + Teaching and Guidance: Provide instruction and guidance to students, participate in continuing education seminars, and assist with laboratory instruction to support the development of clinical skills.

     

    What you need to know

     

    Salary starting at $19.11/hour for Veterinary Technician I positions.

     

    Various shifts available, including day, night, and weekend for ICU and Progressive Care. Positions may require flexibility to work alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or 'on-call duty'.

     

    Please Note: Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc.
