    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Graduate Theological Education or the equivalent from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Association. Ordination, Endorsement, Credentialing, or Commissioning, for ministry by the appropriate faith-group endorsing body.

    + Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. Equivalency for one non-ACPE CPE unit will be considered.

    + Appropriate Chaplaincy Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or must obtain certification within 2 years of hire.

    + Two (2) years of experience in a Health Care setting as a chaplain.

    Job Summary:

    To provide skilled religious, spiritual, and pastoral care services within various settings, to support meaning making, coping and decision making, through initial assessments to develop appropriate spiritual care goals and support for patients, families, and staff.

    Seeking someone to Join our team to provide spiritual care services and to assess appropriate spiritual care goals and support for patients, families, and staff.

    Essential Job Functions:

    + Provides comprehensive, religious ministry services to patients, families, and staff according to their specific religious, spiritual, and emotional needs and desires.

    + Carries out pastoral care visits the UTMB Assesses spiritual strengths and needs of patients, families, and staff.

    + Provides spiritual care through visits, individual and family appointments, support groups, memorial services, and other opportunities. Respects the rights and needs of all, including those who refuse spiritual care. Participates in the meeting ritual and sacramental needs.

    + Responds to spiritual care consults and requests for pastoral support in a timely manner.

    + Documents spiritual care of patients and/or families in patient’s chart in a timely manner.

    + Provides monthly statistical summary of spiritual care activities.

    + Develops effective relationship with other disciplines and participates in patient care teams.

    + Represents the Department of Pastoral Care in the community, collaborates with local faith groups, congregations, and clergy. Develops outreach to enhance community service by the department and increase resources for patients, families, and staff.

    + Promote an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care among all chaplains and with clinical staff.

    + Maintains leadership skills for mentoring volunteers and CPE students, overseeing special projects, and leading groups or teams to accomplish goals of the Department and UTMB.

    + Participates as a full member of the Department of Pastoral Care, including regular attendance of staff meetings, collaboration with the CPE program initiatives, rotating duties of chapel prayer services and on-call coverage. Serves on institutional committees as appointed.

    + Participates in the department’s plan for continuous quality improvement.

    + Participates in regular professional development activities and supervision.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned.
