Description
Seeking a certified medical assistant, wound care, or pharmacy technician to serve as one of two patient navigators for an NIH funded study of a navigator program for patients with diabetic foot ulcers. Individuals with relevant clinical experience (pharmacy or wound care technicians) will also be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under a physician's direction.
+ Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.
+ May give injections or treatments, perform routine laboratory tests under the direction of an attending physician, and assist in other patient care activities such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
+ Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
+ May assist with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments/materials to the doctor as directed.
+ Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
+ May operate an x-ray, EKG, or other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.
+ Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments; observes the principles of sterile technique in performing duties.
+ Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for lab work.
+ Maintains accurate and complete patient records/documentation.
+ Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and assists in performing clerical duties.
+ Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS:
+ Conduct telephone calls and in person visits with enrolled patients to provide support according to the study protocol.
+ Coordinate and provide logistics support for patient appointments related to the trial.
+ Inform and coordinate available resources at Grady and within the community to support patients' needs. Respond to participant inquiries and support calls during designated hours for study participants.
+ The navigator team will be available to assist patients during extended hours, from 7 AM to 7 PM. The two navigators can coordinate their schedules to either work early or late shifts, or follow a 4-day workweek, to ensure coverage during these times. (Not to exceed 40 hours per week total)
+ Study Coordination: Oversee the day-to-day operations of clinical research projects related to diabetic foot ulcers. Collaborate with the research team to ensure all aspects of the studies are executed efficiently and in compliance with relevant protocols, regulations, and ethical guidelines
+ Participant Recruitment and Enrollment: Identify and screen potential study participants, providing them with detailed information about the research study. Obtain informed consent from eligible individuals and coordinate their enrollment into the trials
+ Data Collection and Management: Implement data collection procedures, including medical history, laboratory tests, wound assessments, and other relevant clinical data. Ensure accurate and timely data entry into electronic databases while maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
+ Regulatory Compliance: Assist in obtaining necessary approvals from investigational review boards and ensure documentation is up-to-date and complete throughout the course of the research projects.
+ Clinical Monitoring: Monitor participants' progress throughout the trials and promptly report any adverse events or deviations from the study protocols to the principal investigator and relevant authorities.
+ Collaboration and Communication: Foster effective communication among the research team, healthcare providers, study sponsors, and other stakeholders involved in the diabetic foot ulcer projects. Coordinate study-related meetings and maintain documentation of discussions and decisions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ A high school diploma or equivalent.
+ Positions in this classification may require successful completion of a medical assistant training program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS **:**
+ Certified medical assistant, wound care technician, or pharmacy technician
+ Candidates fluent in Spanish are highly encouraged to apply
+ Prior experience in clinical research coordination and patient navigation roles, particularly in diabetes care or related fields is a plus.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
